A Double Album

5.4.22

Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers 5.13.22

What could possibly be better than your favorite artist getting to release an album? I know! Your favorite artist getting ready to drop a double album. The more music, the better. Why make us wait to drop the deluxe if we can get the double album project at once? It is clear Kendrick Lamar has been working and ready for this upcoming project, and fans are expecting it to now be, a double album.

On April 18th, Kendrick Lamar announced he will release his upcoming album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers on May 13th of this year. This in itself was a big deal, and the end of a chapter for Kendrick and TDE. But he decided he would not stop here.

On May 1st, Kendrick and his brand pgLang released two collaborative sneakers with Coverse. The pgLang x Converse Chuck 70 and the pgLang x Converse Pro Leather. Naturally, they both sold out instantly. Kendrick had a previous relationship with Nike, releasing a somewhat simple rendition of a Nike Cortez. With Converse being a partner of Nike, it does make sense. He continued to take classic silhouettes and put simple spins and touches of branding on each.

Back to the music, though, what can we expect? Kendrick did mention he would be producing his final TDE album. How much freedom does he have with the project? Well, fans are anticipating a double album, and maybe even more.

Kendrick has a cryptic website, oklama.com, which he has used to share updates on the project thus far. Yesterday, and image appeared that showcased a figure holding two discs, and a book. One of the discs read ‘Steppers Master Copy,’ and the other, ‘Morale Master Copy.’ The book? Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers Kendrick Lamar.

The double discs seem to be a clear depiction that Kendrick has enough material to give us two projects instead of one. That would certainly a great way to end his legacy with the label that he found success in. The title of the project also makes a lot of sense. It could possibly sound like one album being about his time working with a major label, and the second half about the behind the scenes and different artists he’d worked with. Which, would honestly leave for a really great book about his experiences and how he has developed as an artist over the years, and hopefully what is next to come.

Are you into the double albums, or do you prefer short projects with all the hits? How about a book? Do you need a Kendrick Lamar book about his journeys?
