Tory Lanez Lady of Namek 11.15.21

Tory Lanez is a very proud, independent artist. When first becoming independent, he made a point to tell his fans he could release music as much as he wanted, and any kind of music he wanted, at that. With that, he’s discussed rap music, pop music, r&b music, Spanish music, but what do we have on the way? An ‘80s album. Tory just dropped the first single from his forthcoming album Alone At Prom. The track is titled Lady of Namek, which has an interesting meaning, as well.

Alone at Prom is honestly a really cool title for the project, given the ‘80s album inspiration. Tory Lanez was born in the early ‘90s, so while he did not go to prom in the ‘80s, it is likely that he studied the music from these times, probably saw some films, and used it all as inspiration for this next project. There is a lot you could do with this idea of being a loner at prom when everyone else is coupled up, especially when Tory is known for his love songs. Alone at Prom is due to release at some point in December. Tory has also scheduled an international tour to support the release.

Lady of Namek is an interesting title, if you take the time to think about what Namek is. Tory has been passionate about making music internationally. However, Namek is not another country or city you have never heard of it. It’s actually, another planet. Another planet, from Dragon Ball Z. I am just going to leave this here as Tory is likely singing about a girl who is out of this world, and given the high-school themed music video, he wanted to let his gamer and nerdy side out just a bit.

The music video for Lady of Namek dropped on Monday and has over 2.7 million views so far. The video consists of Tory Lanez crushing on someone in class. The image seems to be lower quality, the guys have bowl cuts and shaggy hair while the girls are wearing their hair in pigtails. The apparel consists of Vans, baggy denim, varsity jackets, and lots of color. He took the ‘80s theme to heart when he put together this video.

The sound started off a little regular-Tory Lanez to me, with a little extra piano. But after the intro, thirty seconds in, we start to hear some drums that feel similar to a Michael Jackson tune. I do think Tory was channeling MJ throughout the song as he took his singing voice, added some higher tones and tunes, and even copied his signature hair cut.

Towards the end of the video, it takes a bit of a dark turn. Tory Lanez is fighting with another male at the school, seemingly over who is a better singer, but maybe over a females attention. As all their friends run into the gymnasium, Tory’s opponent pulls out a knife mid-fight. Tory notices the girl he is feeling walk away with another man, and during that moment of slipping, he loses the battle to the knife. The Lady of Namek, hurt Tory Lanez, and pretty bad at that. I did not like this part of the storyline at all. I am not so sure why it was necessary or why Tory continues to joke about violence during what is going on between him and the Megan Thee Stallion situation.

What is so interesting about the release of this track, is it seems to come immediately after Wack 100 shared his thoughts on the situation. That being, that if Megan Thee Stallion was shot in the foot, the smallest bones in the body, she would not have been able to walk away, report to the hospital, and perform days later. He tends to think, she kicked out the windows of the car and cut herself with the shattered glass.

Now, that is an interesting theory, but not totally what we are here for today. Did you like Tory Lanez’s new track? Are you excited for his ‘80s album?
