The Internet broke today as media outlets received word that Cardi B has filed for divorce from her current husband, Offset. This is not the first time there has been trouble in paradise for the Quality Control couple, but it does come as breaking news to fans and members of the industry. Let’s have a look back at their relationship and what we can unfold.

The relationship became somewhat public in 2017. Cardi B and Offset dropped their track Lick in January of 2017, and later posted pictures together on Valentine’s, so their relationship likely did start prior to this. Still, it had to be somewhat recent where private couples in this industry do not last long. Come the 2017 VMA’S, Cardi B basically told Offset to put a ring on it, and he sure did.

Offset proposes to Cardi B on stage

It was October of 2017 when Offset proposed to Cardi B together on stage. Her diamond was absolutely enormous and it was the talk of the industry. Are they actually getting married? Did Offset really just propose on stage in front of thousands? Not only are they getting married - they already were. It was a year later that fans found out the proposal was for show, pulling up their wedding certificate stating that they had received their marriage license in September of 2017.

Cardi B did express she did not have a fairytale proposal, and this is why Offset gave her the proposal, even though they were already married. However, haters will do so, and claim it was all staged. Either way you look at it, the couple is happy and together - for now.

We can never forget about the cheating rumors. There were plenty, but the one that stuck out the most was the alleged sex tape rumors that popped up in early 2018. Fans were telling Cardi to do better and leave Offset, but she wanted time to process on her own. Interestingly enough, this is when the pregnancy rumors started to spill. While Cardi initially refused to fold to the rumors, she did pour her heart out on Invasion of Privacy, but ultimately decided to stay with Offset.

Whether it be because they were already married with a child on the way, or if she really did not care, Cardi B shook it off and stuck with her man. By July of 2018, the world knows they have been married for eight months, and have announced the birth of Kulture to the world.

Not matter how happy a couple can be, there are always going to be people who want to ruin that. When you are each public figures and household names, this will make this even more true. Cheating rumors and breakup rumors poured up and down all year for Cardi. At one point she was accused of assaulting a bartender she believed to have slept with Offset. Then, after announcing a peaceful split from her baby father, Offset joined her on stage at Rolling Loud asking for her back. This relationship has been on again, off again for the entire course of action.

The Grammy’s that Cardi dressed up like a flower at, with the infamous Offset tongue kiss on the Red Carpet, that was just this last February. Feels like years ago, but I also remember it like it was yesterday. At this moment, we know the couple are happily back together, and on the surface, it seemed like things were going well ever since. The two have been hitting award shows, making music and spoiling each other ever since.

What is interesting about this couple, is that they are both always up to something. Cardi just dropped her single WAP with Megan Thee Stallion. Offset just dropped a few new songs with Migos and NBA Youngboy. These work schedules and the press runs required warrant a lot of traveling and being away from each other. With that, the rumors do not end and are likely very difficult to shake.

During Cardi B’s WAP press run, she did share some insights to her living situation with The Breakfast Club. She mentioned that her and Offset just bought a mansion together in Atlanta. However, Cardi mentioned she did not like Atlanta, and was staying in California during the pandemic. During the time of the interview, Offset was at the house in Atlanta, away from Cardi and Kulture. She speaks very highly of Offset as a father, and even spoke about her great relationship with Offset’s mother. Though, the living situation seemed a bit off. During these times, where work and traveling is limited, why would they not take advantage and be together?

So, what we know so far is that today, Cardi B filed for a divorce from Offset. This comes just prior to their three year wedding anniversary. Allegedly, this divorce notion is not mutual upon the two. Meaning, Offset does not want to get a divorce. This will require a hearing with Cardi listed as the plaintiff and Offset of the defendant. The notion also shares that Cardi is requesting full custody for Kulture, as well as child support from Offset. TMZ quotes Cardi saying that her and Offset are "currently separated, and there's no hope of working things out.”

This is always sad news, and although when you break it down, it looks like they rushed things from the start, I hope they figure things out. It seems like this notion is a bit more real than past situations. However, Cardi has always said through all the fights, they are great business partners, friends, and hopefully coparents. I am sure that no matter what happens, Kulture will grow up loved, and we will still see more of Cardi and the Migos.
