Casanova Trial
3.17.21
Casanova is a rapper from New York City. Though he has been around since 2016 with a few hit records, many are recently coming to terms with who this man is, by learning about his consistent updates from behind bars. Casanova has realistically been wanted for gang violence for years, but this past December, has been officially taken away. In a recent court hearing, Casanova was denied bail, as the jury brings up an old interview with Nick Cannon.
Back in October of 2019, the Police of New York City released a statement to remove five artists from the Rolling Loud lineup, due to public safety concerns. The five artists removed from the line up included Sheff G, Don Q, 22GZ, the late Pop Smoke, and Casanova. During this time, the Police suggested these artists had been involved in recent violent acts, and if they did perform, they would be putting the city at risk of violence.
About a year later, in December of 2020 Casanova and seventeen others were charged with conspiracy to commit racketeering, conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and firearms possession. This group of men is said to be called the ‘Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation’ gang. At first, the seventeen other members had been obtained and put under arrest. The police were looking for Casanova, who ultimately turned himself in, and claimed his innocence. This group is looking at a minimum of a ten year sentence, with a maximum of life in prison.
Casanova originally pleads not guilty to the charges held against him, and still thinks that he will be home sooner rather than later. However, things are not looking so great. The alleged activity also includes the murder of a 15-year-old, drug trafficking, money fraud, and more. On top of that, there have been some questionable behavior behind bars, to the officers on duty. Plus, previous interview recordings are being help against him.
In early February, multiple reports have been released of Casanova being punished behind bars. One of them included him not wearing a mask when asked to do so. Another, was due to a TikTok Challenge. TikTok has become a viral sensation, and while it seems like Casanova has been relatively active on Twitter behind bars, it is illegal to film or record anything in the jail cell, including during visits. Allegedly, while on a video call with one of his visitors, a woman recorded Casanova doing the JuneBug Challenge behind bars. The video was posted on Instagram, and because inmates are not allowed to record during visits, his video rights were revoked for the time being.
We are not off to the best start behind bars, but things get a bit worse for Casanova when he appears in court. Those against Casanova bring up multiple incidents and text messages, where Casanova makes comments that could allude to him being a part of the ‘Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation’ gang. One of those, included a 2019 interview on Nick Cannon’s podcast where Casanova said he is “Still Ape.” which is short, but is being used against him thinking this means he is Gorilla Stone.
After Nick Cannon’s mess with his podcast finally blew over and he is getting his work back, this hits. I do not see it being something to spread as fast and furious as the previous comments that were made, but it is definitely something that Nick will have to keep in mind for the future. Whom he is having on the show, and what the topics of discussions are, will probably be a bit more controlled and proof-read before releasing anything.
Needless to say, Casanova remains behind bars without bail at this given moment. He has shared a number of Tweets, some which have been removed, suggesting his disappointment in his friends that he has on the outside. It definitely appears that he feels that his friends have forgotten about him since he has went away. They do not send him food, they do not call or visit, or anything that he would be hopeful for during these difficult times. He sends out a message stating:
“If you ain’t send me no money or check in on me and you supposedly my mans, s*** my d***!! !! !! And that goes for anybody!
While it sounds like he was having funny doing TikTok Challenges, it is clear he is feeling pain behind bars.
The trouble amongst hip-hop artists have not died down in the slightest. We recently welcomed Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel, though that was after eight years. We recently welcomed home Kodak Black, but that was a pardon by the President, and we cannot be sure how long that will last. YNW Melly remains behind bars, with no clear view to freedom. In the past few months, dozens have been arrested. Rich the Kid, OMB Peezy, Pooh Shiesty, Yella Beezy, Fivio Foreign, DaBaby, 42 Dugg, G Herbo, Silento, Trey Songz, YFN Lucci and more.
Hopefully we can get it together. However it just does not work that way for everyone.
