Chynna Rogers has passed away at the age of just 25. She was an upcoming rapper from Philadelphia. I call her the “First Lady of the A$AP Mob.” Chynna began out as a model, before she had met them. The A$AP Mob got together by their equal love for fashion, so it does make sense that Chynna and the Mob ran into each other, and formulated an organic relationship.

In past interviews, Chynna says that she formulated relationships with all the members from A$AP separately. It was also them, that got her to take her hip-hop career more seriously. I think Chynna is a super talented female artist. The world has so many females in hip-hop right now. Just as I think A$AP is underrated, I think Chynna had a spot in the game.

Causes of death have yet to be identified, though there are obvious speculations. Chynna had a past of addiction. Though we believe she was sober from hard drugs, she was still smoking and drinking. One can imagine with the anxiety and emotions that everyone is going through during these times of isolation, how those with addiction and depression issues may feel.

Chynna was not an A-List musician, and not everyone may know about her. I do not know all the words to all of her songs, but she holds a special place in my memories. I recall a project I was working on almost three years ago. The task was to find a grassroots level, streetwear ambassador for a project. Number one on my list was Dreezy. She is from Chicago, was pretty new at the time, she had a hit song, she was great. I thought, maybe she is too big. The second girl on my list, was Chynna. I found her, her music, who she hung out with. I was like yes, this girl is up next, and exactly what we need. This was three years ago and I swear I was just thinking about her last week, as I was putting together new plans for some upcoming projects.

Her voice is beautiful and creepy at the same time. Her content is just as hard as any male artist, and sometimes deep and eerie. She may have been going through some things, but do not think she is one of those whiney, auto-tune type of emo rappers we hear today. Clearly, you can tell by the crew she hung around with what type of vibe she would bring on a track.

Just a shame another talent gone too soon. Or anyone for that matter, due to these circumstances. She definitely had tons of friends, the whole city of Philly is mourning right now for her. Check up on your friends every now and then, it could mean everything.
