Emmy’s 2021
9.20.21
Award Show Season is certainly amongst us, and last night was the 73rd Annual Emmy’s Award Show, celebrating the best in television programming. The vibe from the Emmy’s is certainly different than the VMA’s which hosts a room with dozens of hip-hop artists, however, the fashion, and the comedy, certainly came to entertain.
Seth Rogen is movie comedian goals, and certainly put people’s sensitivity to the test with his speech last night. Now, Seth was already trending prior to the Emmy’s, after being seen on the Red Carpet, appearing to have lost a ton of weight. People were amazed at how great he looked, and then, he may have put the entire building into a panic.
Rogen came up to the stage to announce a category of winners throughout the show. But of course, as the comedian he is, Seth needed to share a few jokes prior to doing so. At what stage is taking jokes too far? On top of that, when there is truth to that joke, how do you move forward? Seth Rogen made jokes about the event setup, and how it lacks following COVID-19 Safety Protocols. Not only that, but he suggests that the Emmy’s lied to attendees, saying the event would be held outdoors, but was ultimately a sealed venue.
"Let me start by saying there is way too many of us in this little room! What are we doing? They said this was outdoors! It’s not! They lied to us."
"I would not have come to this. Why is there a roof? It is more important that we have three chandeliers than that we make sure we don’t kill Eugene Levy tonight. That is what has been decided."
There are certainly some taking the precautions of COVID-19 more seriously than others. For those watching whom are taking those precautions at home, they were quick to comment, also noticing that attendees were not even wearing masks, which is currently mandated in most areas when in an enclosed venue.
This definitely stirred up some uneasy emotion in the crowd. Perhaps some who have not thought about it prior, and some whom were already a bit nervous about attending, but were assured everything would be okay. In hopes to ease some of the tension, the host of the night, Cedric the Entertainer, ensured viewers and attendees that they were taking safety measures, and that everyone in the building had to have been vaccinated. He also, added some humor to his speech, hopefully lightening up the mood.
“It feels amazing to be here. We’re all vaccinated in this room. I’m vaxxed, but I didn’t have no reactions like Nicki Minaj‘s cousin’s friend. I got the Pfizer. Because I’m bougie. That’s the Neiman Marcus of vaccines. There’s Moderna, that’s Macy’s, and then Johnson & Johnson, that’s TJ Maxx, of course.”
I agree with him, but he also did just trash anyone in the crowd that has been vaccinated by anything other than Pfizer. Anyways, it seems that the Emmy’s decided to lax their restrictions, since everyone had to show proof of vaccination to enter. While this does not mean everyone is completely safe with the Delta variant, and that it appears attendees were not given the full truth, it seemed to have put some ease to the tension, at this moment in time.
On top of the uneasiness of the COVID protocols and jokes, there were plenty other great moments of the night. From Conan O’Brien cheering on himself in the crowd when Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma attempted to make a speech, Debbie Allen being recognized for Governor’s Award, Trevor Noah being nominated twice for his brand new since pandemic talk show The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, and of course, plenty of memorable and questionable fashion moments.
