Gang Gang, Hall of Fame
5.18.21
Polo G has had himself quite the breakout year. From releasing his sophomore album The GOAT, to becoming a XXL Freshman, to a number of platinum singles. The artist in my opinion is one of the largest talents of the new kid bunch, and he has a major feature on the way. After celebrating the one year anniversary since the release of his project, The GOAT, Polo G announces a new album on the way, and hints at the feature on the first single.
In the recent post celebrating the one-year anniversary of The GOAT, Polo G shares “A Yr Ago Today I Really set shit on fire🤧🔥...But wait until u see what’s next #HALLOFFAME.” So, it sounds pretty clear that there is a new album on the way, most likely titled Hall Of Fame. Billboard has been tweeting about Polo G’s accomplishments, after spending a full year on the Billboard Top 200 chart. His single Die A Legend, as spent 100 weeks on the chart alone. Polo G knows how massive The GOAT was. I even said I did not mind him calling himself that after the work he put in on this album. However, it seems like he is taking it up another level, by now inducting himself into the Hall of Fame with his next album. Can he live up to the hype?
So far, the stats are looking promising. Polo G shared a new post on all social pages, suggesting a new track titled Gang Gang would be releasing this upcoming Friday. The post includes a few images from on set of what appears to be a music video, but the cover photo - it is Polo G and Lil Wayne. Polo G has been very open about the influencer that Tupac has had on his music career, but more than others I have seen talk about him in the past. I do believe that Polo G is a true student and lover to the game of hip-hop, and the Lil Wayne feature feels right. I was a bit surprised with the Jack Harlow feature. I was surprised with some of the features Snoop Dogg had been doing. But this duo right here, feels good.
It is no secret that Lil Wayne has the same love for hip-hop, and continues to knowledge himself on what is going on in the space. This is the guy that made music with Joe Jonas with the Jonas Brothers were the hottest thing on the planet. He tested his sound. He realized when he was making a comeback, he’d have to get his old fans with some old Lil Wayne, and he’d have to get the new kids with new tricks. He collaborated with XXXTentacion, remade Jack Harlow’s What’s Poppin verse his own, and I think he is going to go crazy on this Polo G track.
When you listen to the Verzuz battles of past legends in the space, they always fight over who had the best Jay-Z feature. If they had one at all. If you think about hip-hop twenty years from now, I think they’ll be doing the same thing with Lil Wayne. I am really excited to see what this track holds on Friday, and the rest of Polo G’s catalog as well.
