Hip Hop Takes Sides

Megan Thee Stallion has recently used Instagram Live to share her truth on the situation the night she was shot in the foot. She shared images on her page of the injury, because of people whom may have claimed she was lying about actually being shot. After confirming that Tory Lanez was, in fact, her shooter, hip-hop had a lot to say.
While it feels like Megan Thee Stallion is the hottest thing on the market in today’s hip-hop, there will always be haters. Clearly, Megan has felt that people were being unfair to her and undermining her injury, which was something severe. She shared that she did not speak out on Tory Lanez shooting her right away, because she wanted to spare him and the extra trouble that everyone would have gotten in if the police found out they were armed. Now, she asks the world to spare her from making remarks about her situation.
Many in the hip-hop industry have taken a stand to speak out on the situation, in support of Megan The Stallion. Kehlani removed Tory Lanez from one of her top songs. Cardi B gifted her a custom Birkin Bag from the WAP video, and went on Live stating how this week should have been the happiest week of Megan’s life, after the success of the song. However, people harassed her and called her liar until she spoke out on the entirety of the situation. While I wondered, will the guys stick by Tory? The females are not the only ones who sided with Megan.
Chance The Rapper has spoken out on protecting Black Women many times in recent months. Of course, he chimes in on the situation with Megan, extremely direct and clear, with a broader message overall.
I hope Meg really gets justice for what Tory did to her. And that we can all learn from this, how near and constant and serious, the threat of lethal violence and abuse is for every Black woman.
TI also got on Instagram Live expressing his outrage by Tory Lanez shooting a female. He called the act “preposterous,” and stated a man who can do this deserves no respect.
Dozens of others have also shared their disgust in Tory Lanez, and support of Megan Thee Stallion. Bun B, Troy Ave and Lil Reese are just a few others. While this act of selfless is indeed absurd, you will always have haters and those that question what lead to an action so extreme.
A few weeks back, female talk show host was dragged by Megan for saying “I wish someone loved me enough to shoot me if I try to leave.” 50 Cent also owed Megan an apology after sharing a meme of Megan running away from Tory, downplaying the seriousness of the situation at hand.
Things got a little more ugly when Atlanta rapper, Cash Talk posted a quote Instagram story about the situation. The post read:
Megan 6 feet. Tory 5”2. We don’t know what the hell happened in that car! Y’all know females be trippin and sh*t! All these cap a** rappers picking sides like little b*** and s***
There is always the question of what lead to the act of violence. But just as not complying with the police does not offer a death sentence, neither could anything Megan have done to Tory. Megan did reply to these tweet saying “He didn’t make it past the 9th grade so I expect nothing else coming from his mouth.”
Waka Flocka Flame commented on this post, that was captured and shared by Akademiks (of course). The comment include two 100 symbols, leading many to believe that he agreed with this statement. In the post that Akademiks shared, he included an image of the rapper, Cash Talk, wearing a Dro branded t-shirt. Waka shared that he was applauding the shirt, as he has ownership of the brand. His wife, Tammy Rivera had a lot to say about the situation as well, claiming that Waka and Meg are actually friends and supporters of each other, and she should know that he was not agreeing with that statement. He had checked on her multiple times since the situation.
Female artist Dyamonddoll just dropped a new song with Tory Lanez called Automatic. Apparently, she is unbothered by what has been going on in the news lately.
When it comes to business, are you picking sides? Will you stop playing Tory’s music? Will the radio stop? Quite frankly, now that he is an independent artist, his career was likely going south anyways.
