Saweetie, Quavo

Over the weekend, Saweetie officially and publicly announced her breakup with Quavo. The two had seemingly been a power couple for the past two years. There have been some rumors in the past questioning Quavo’s loyalty, but we definitely thought the two had made it through, especially after the custom Icy Girl Bentley that Saweetie was gifted. Unfortunately, many good things come to end, and this is another relationship I hate to see go.

Saweetie became the first to announce that she was a newly single woman, with a series of Tweets. It sounds as though she wanted to clear the air and state that she was single, because people were questioning why a strong woman would stay with a man whom was unfaithful. Up until this point, we did think that the couple had overcome the rumors, but Saweetie was ready to let the world know that she would not be standing for the allegations, and was ready to move on on her own. She wrote:

“I’m single. I’ve endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulation that degrades my character. Presents don’t band aid scars and the love isn’t real when the intimacy is given to another women.

I emotionally checked out a long time ago and have walked away with a deep sense of peace and freedom. Excited for this new chapter of elevation.

So, it seems as though even when being gifted amazing things such as the custom Bentley, Saweetie was not happy in the back of her mind. While many may think that you would rather keep you personal business private, this was a very public relationship, and Saweetie felt that she needed to address it, in order to clear her name. However, Quavo was not too happy about that.

Saweetie did not completely slander Quavo, but she made it sound like she was done dirty and was very pleased to move on. The confidence of this woman is unmatched, and when feelings are involved, this has got to sting. However, Quavo surprised me when he responded basically saying that Saweetie was wack for making her statement. Though he wished her the best, it was clearly very salty. Quavo stated:

I had love for you and disappointed you did all that. You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best.

Not the woman I thought you were has be shook, even days later. The Icy Girl had to do what she does best, and stay strong. She quote tweeted the message with a “Take Care” and this has since gone absolutely viral. The Saweetie as Drake memes are endless, from the viral response of the artist.

Things got a bit ugly when family became involved. Saweetie’s aunt and Quavo’s sister each had words about their family, the relationship, and each other. While Quavo’s sister was attempting to stand up for her brother when it seemed like he was continued to be beat down, she ended up dragging Saweetie in the mix of it. Saying that the real Saweetie is not all good, and alluding to her being self-centered. This was when Saweetie’s aunt stepped in. She threatened to air out plenty of dirty laundry, and came to directly discredit anything that Quavo’s sister had to say. In the end, the couple will continue to be successful in their careers as entertainers. Quavo shared that he was instantly back in the studio, while Saweetie just landed the cover of Cosmopolitan Magazine.

There have been rumors flying around that Quavo took back the Bentley that he had gifted to Saweetie, but sources have confirmed that this is not actually true. However, the car was leased and Saweetie’s name is not on it, so, it likely will not be in her possession forever.

There are a few things that I am looking forward to, and worried about with this breakup. I was really looking forward to the Saweetie and Cardi B collaboration. The ladies did say it was on the way. They are both their own very successful females in the industry, but I can assume this may be a bit awkward for them for a bit. I hope that we still get to witness this track. Additionally, Saweetie has always been really up beat and powerful in her music. I think that this will give the doors to connect more on a deeper, personal level with her fans, like Cardi did on Invasion of Privacy. I would love to see that from Saweetie, but also hope that she keeps up with the boss level energy. From Quavo’s end, I know that the Culture III has been highly anticipated. They need to drop that, or something else as soon as humanly possible, and it has got to be good. What better time to drop then when you are all over the news?
