Polo G’s Ruff Ryders Freestyle
6.7.21
Polo G is gearing up to drop his next album Hall of Fame this Friday. In order to start getting the people excited for what is to come, Polo G stepped into the studio with the LA Leakers to share a new freestyle to hold us over until Friday. Being his second time coming around, he had to do something special. That he did, while free-styling over DMX’s Ruff Ryders Anthem beat.
It has been a few weeks since Polo G announced a new album was on the way, and we have finally been able to view the trackless and some album artwork, which is fantastic. The product will include features from Lil Durk, The Kid Laroi, Lil Wayne, G Herbo, Rod Wave, DaBaby, Young Thug, Nicki Minaj, Pop Smoke, Fivio Foreign, Roddy Ricch and Scorey. There will be ten tracks including these features, and an additional ten tracks, just Polo. A nice way to say, I am going to bring you those hot features, but I can do it on my own, as well. Once sharing the tracklist, he also shared a creative of all the features portraits on golden plaques, like they were all Hall of Fame members.
Polo G’s sophomore album was titled The Goat, and he is already ready to induct himself into the Hall of Fame. Most of the time, this is frowned upon or laughed upon, with talent so new in the space. Not to mention, he has claimed to be the Tupac of his generation in the past. However, Polo G has lived up to the hype, and proves his skill set in every new track or project he puts out.
This freestyle specifically, is certainly included. When I first heard that he had freestyled over one of DMX’s biggest songs, I was pretty iffy on it. We just lost DMX. The only new artist on his album that was released was Moneybagg Yo. Was this really the way to go? Well, he certainly honored the late rapper, and did the track justice with his take on the beat.
Polo is wearing a cream white graphic hoodie, a large chain, a wrist brace, and his hair down. As soon as the beat starts, he definitely is feeling it and ready to go all out, though is still instantly able to give DMX his shout out. While everyone should know this track, Polo definitely did his hip-hop history research coming up. This is super clear throughout his rhyme scheme, as he brings up growing up in the 90s, Eazy-E, and Big Meech. He goes in for about two minutes and fifteen seconds on the track, without missing a beat.
There was a lot that stood out about the freestyle, but I think one of the freshest bars was about being the hungriest man out, including a homeless man. In the Eazy-E bar, he stated he was at the same house Eazy-E was at, Once Polo G finished his freestyle, he was quick to explain that he had stayed at the same place in Calabasas that Eazy-E had previous stayed at.
Overall, Polo G completely impressed the LA Leakers, who called upon all the 90s kids that have avoiding coming through and trying their luck at the freestyle. Hall of Fame drops on Friday, and we will certainly be tuning in.
