Rocky Road
5.17.22
If you are a Kodak Black fan, you know a few things about going down a rocky road. After Kodak Black was pardoned by the former President, trouble continues to follow him. After being featured several times on Kendrick Lamar’s new album, some people were not happy, due to the controversies that stem around Kodak. Just days later, Kodak finds himself a new feature, with Moneybagg Yo, and they seem to have a proper message.
Moneybagg Yo and Kodak Black have their first single together, Lower Level, which was released in 2018. The video has run about 75,000,000 views to date, which was certainly a massive hit for both of the artists. Back with another one, Rocky Road, premiered yesterday and is just under 1,000,000 views thus far.
It may not be the best timing for this release, when so much controversy is being revolved around one of the artists, but Moneybagg Yo has said that him and Kodak have always clicked, and he is actually gearing up to drop a new project in the near future. This could be the first single off a new project, that he wanted people to hear, first.
Throughout the track, he mentions having children with Ari and wanting to be in the best place to provide for his family. The single feels like recapping the rocky road that they have each experienced, and therefore overcoming it. In some ways, Kodak Black seems to be a bit preachy in her verse, which is something I wonder if people want to hear. Do you resonate with Kodak’s messaging? Is he someone you would take advice from?
Nonetheless, the song was cool. Still on the more serious side, like Lower Level. I think it could be fun for them to do a more upbeat track next. Moneybagg Yo had a few looks throughout the video, an all black fit and a matching jacket and shorts with paint splatter design. Kodak Black wore a face mask and a purple and yellow set that matched the Maybach he rapped out of. Fit for fit, I may give it to Yak on this one.
The Kodak feature may not be the best timing, but I do not think it sets Moneybagg back any. Fans should anticipate another single next week, and a new project on the way.
