Young Thug

Over the weekend, Young Thug posted about a Slime Language 2 listening party. The original Slime Language project was a compilation album by Young Thug, including features from many of his YSL Records artists. Earlier this summer, Thug tweeted that we should expect the sequel to the album on August 16th, which would have been the original album’s two year anniversary. However, almost immediately after, he claimed that his Twitter was hacked, and no such album has been revealed. However, if there really were a listening party, the album may now be near.

While the original announcement of the album had gone dark, Young Thug has not left us completely hanging with new music. Earlier this year, he dropped a collaboration album with Chris Brown, Slime & B. Most recently, he hopped on Megan Thee Stallion’s Don’t Stop and T.I.’s Ring. Thug even featured on some pop song, Risk, with the Kooly Bros. Coincidentally, I’d call this song a risk since it is so not his typical audience. However, Thug can do so much with his voice, and has been a pioneer on a new sound for the south, so I actually think it worked out just fine. Still, I am ready for some new Slime music.

The original Slime Language project was filled with features from YSL Records artists and close family. From Karlae, Duke, Hidoraah, Dolly, Tracy T and others, you may have not been super familiar. However, some of my favorite songs on this project came from these artists. Karlae on You Ain’t Slime Enough still plays on repeat in my car. So who am I comparing these tracks too? Well, of course Lil Baby, Gunna, Lil Keed and Young Thug were on the project as well. Young Thug has done an incredible job finding artists that fit his sound, and what he wants out of a label. Keed has definitely taken off since this project, and Baby and Gunna are obviously huge talents on their own, who consistently pay respect to the advice Thug has given them over the years. In a world where the ladies are taking over hip-hop, I hope for break throughs for Karlae, Hidoraah and Dolly.

After taking a bit of extra time for this project, for whatever reason, I have to anticipate even more. Thug has a couple new artists under the label this year, and Keed was just represented on the XXL Freshman cover. That is two years in a row where Thug has his roster represented on this list that represents the new wave of hip-hop every year. For someone who has so drastically changed the sound of Atlanta hip-hop to something so unique and different, it is incredible to see the immediate success for many of his label mates.

July 29th was when Young Thug had tweeted to fans that we should expect Slime Language 2 on August 16th. This tweet has since been removed, but the follow up tweet still remains, stating that his Twitter was hacked. It seems unlikely that Thugger would have seen the hack and resolved it so quickly. Especially since the project seemingly does exist. Perhaps something did not get cleared, or he wanted something changed, but either way, the idea of this album has arose again.

Over the weekend, Young Thug posts on his Instagram story with a caption that says “Listening Party for SL2” Listening parties are for albums once they are complete, so if this post was true, the album must be finally ready. While there is no set release date, these listening parties usually happen just a few days prior to the album launch. To be honest, the video very much looked like he was just in the studio playing it back. He could have been showing it to Gunna and some other members, before the official party or announcement, to make sure everyone was on the same page this time around.
