Super Bowl LVI 2.13.22

The past weekend was another eventful weekend in football. There were coach hires, fires, a few notable retirements, and two conference final crazy games to announce the two teams whom will meet at the Super Bowl in two weeks.

Towards the end of each year, teams evaluate their players and staff. There have been many promotions over this past weekend. The Broncos will sign Nathaniel Hackett, former Offensive Coordinator of the Green Bay Packers, as their new head coach. The Bears hire Colts Defensive Coordinator Matt Eberflus, as new head coach. Giants hire Bills Offensive Coordinator, Brian Daboll, as new head coach. The current Patriots Offensive Coordinator, Josh McDaniels is said to be leaving to take a head coach position with the Raiders.

One that may be most surprising, is the loss of a coach, and not due to being fired for poor services. Sean Payton announces he's stepping down as head coach of the Saints. While he has decided to step down from his head coach role, he does say that he still envision keeping football in his life. Will he coach again? Maybe. But for now, it is not where his heart is at, and will be taking some time away.

On top of this, there have been a few major retirements from the game, as well. Two-time Super Bowl champion and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, has officially announced his retirement from the NFL after an 18-year career.⁣ While we had seen this one coming, it as emotional for many watching him take the field one last time.

In a different fashion, many of us watched Tom Brady end his season last weekend, but anticipated at least another season for him to come back and go out on a high note. Over the weekend, word spread like wildfire that the seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady will be retiring from the NFL after 22 seasons. While there have been conflicting reports on whether or not this is a final decision, we should be hearing from Tom directly over the next few days, of what exactly his future in the sport holds.

After all this, we had two games to watch on Sunday. The Cincinnati Bengals vs the Kansas City Chiefs, and the San Fransisco 49ers vs the LA Rams. Both games were nail biters that came down to the wire. The Bengals were down 21-3, ended up tying the game forcing an OT, and came out victorious. The Rams and 49ers kept it close til the end, with Matt Stafford coming out on top, a year after being traded by the team that drafted him first pick overall in 2009.

We will now have a Rams VS Bengals Super Bowl, and each team has plenty to prove. On top of this, a half time show that will be one for the ages. Can’t forget about those commercials coming our way either. What’s your favorite part of the Super Bowl? It all goes down on February 13th.
