August 17th marks the week that Bobby Shmurda is due in court to appear in front of the Board of Parole. If all goes well in court, hip-hop fans are eager to have him instantly released. According to his sentence served in 2016, the earliest Bobby is due out on parole is December of 2020, and the latest, December of 2021. While we have seen Tekashi 6ix9ine get released early, and YNM Melly denied a hearing, anything can happen. However, Bobby’s activity on social recently, and his birthday just passing earlier this month, have fans hopeful for his return to freedom, and hip-hop.

This case stems from an incident in 2014. Bobby and at least eleven other members of his crew were arrested for conspiracy to commit a murder and possession of weapons with plans to use in an unlawful manner. Just months after the release of the nation wide hit, Hot Boy, Bobby’s career would be put on pause. The two-year investigation led to Bobby taking a seven year plea deal. Some members of the crew took the same, others declined, as they are now serving life.

Prior to Bobby’s arrest, he had recently signed to Epic Records. Artists like Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Busta Rhymes, Black Youngsta, DJ Khaled, Future, Outkast, Rick Ross, Swizz Beatz, Tyla Yaweh and Yo Gotti are all members of the label. While Bobby feels like the label made money off of his violent, gang-related lyrics, he thought they were family. Though, after his arrest, they did not help him one bit. It is a bit unclear where the contract ultimately stands. However, Bobby Shmurda feels no loyalty to Epic Records, but has a lot of potential ahead.

The desire for Bobby Shmurda to come home, is essentially how it felt when Boosie was about to come home. Hip-hop just does not sound like Bobby’s music does anymore, and it will be exciting to hear from him once he does return. Even though Bobby did record a verse over the phone that was used without retouching on Tekashi 6ix9ine’s song STOOPID in 2018, the hip-hop community is commending him for serving his sentencing and never ratting on his crew (or anyone).

People in the industry are prepping for Bobby to come home, and they are not forgetting the recent events in hip-hop’s latest prison release. Charlamange The God from the Breakfast Club presented in a recent interview, how do we reward someone like Bobby? Bobby had the opportunity to speak on the other members of his crew, he had the opportunity to take a smaller deal, but he took the whole plea to do his time just like his friends. The team on set of the interview explained Bobby needs a parade and monuments around their city. That this man, was a true rider.

Young Thug also shared his opinion on Bobby coming home. Thug said “When he gets home, I for sure got something for him.” This could probably be a watch or a car, or something. But it does seem like we could have some Shmurda x Slime music in our near future. While Shmurda should be looking for a label, I do not think he goes with Young Thug, just because New York rap and Souther rap is so different.

I can maybe see Bobby going to Republic Records. Pop Smoke was a part of Republic Records, along with others like Drake, Nicki Minaj, Ski Mask the Slump God, Rich The Kid and Post Malone, to name a few. He will definitely come out dropping hits under GS9 Entertainment, but eventually should love for bigger help to really get back to where he left off.

A Bobby Shmurda and Pop Smoke collab would have been it for New York. I even think he would have done something powerful with Nipsey. At this point, I’ll settle for a Bobby Shmurda, Fivio Foreign collab. I see him working with Roddy Ricch, too. 50 Cent will come out of the wood works for this one. Like the Yeah Yeah Yeah song he did with A Boogie and Don Q. It is going to be fun.

Times in hip-hop are quite different, the way people are moving and the way they sound. Hopefully Bobby is ready to come back hot, just where he left off.
