Kanye West, Travis Scott, Dr. Dre Wash Us In The Blood Released 6.30.20

Kanye West and his family have had themselves quite the week. The Yeezy Foam Runners finally launched in the US. A YZY x GAP collab was announced, causing GAP stocks to rise forty-two percent since the announcement. Ye dropped a music video for an old song, his wife Kim became a declared billionaire, and Kanye announced an upcoming album entitled, God’s Country. Today, we got a taste of what is to come on the album, with the release of the new track, Wash Us In The Blood.

Kanye has leaked the idea of working together with Dr. Dre on this upcoming project. Dre did take the reins to mix Wash Us In The Blood, which also features Travis Scott. Overall, I love this trio. Kanye and Travis have lots of connections and a family bond, as the mother of their children are sisters. Kanye West and Dr. Dre is not something I was expecting, but I think is amazing. Their peak was around the same time, and they are two of the most artistic and smart people in hip-hop. This is very clearly demonstrated in this song.

A song with Dr. Dre brings me hopes of a Late Registration Kanye, while a Travis Scott feature could go anywhere from 808s & Heartbreaks to The Life of Pablo to I Love It. Being a part of an upcoming album entitled God’s Country, it is more likely this will be in some way, Kanye’s take on Gospel music. Interestingly enough, Kanye was just nominated for a BET Award for Best Gospel/Inspirational for his song, Follow God. Though he did not take home the hardware, it is fitting to drop this so soon after, just to remind us all of who is the most inspirational in this space.

Wash Us In The Blood comes with a music video ready to tell a story, largely regarding the protests and causes to fight against police brutality. The opening scene is a white police officer becoming aggressive with a black male, as another black police officer steps in and shames all the cops on site for becoming aggressive towards an unarmed, un-harmful human. This video goes on to display a vast variety of iPhone video clips. These clips seem to portray what life has been like for the black community, from people struggling through the pandemic, getting into fights, being imprisoned, to singing at the Church Choir, to Kanye and Travis playing at shows, and more.

Kanye loves to teach a bigger picture, portray a lesson and spread his faith. His verses strongly address the genocides and slavery of past generations. How, though this may not be the case today, they have been given no more of a better chance in life, causing many to have to sell drugs for a living. Kanye asks for assistance, if anyone is listening. Still, the number person he is searching for, is God.

Kanye has a crazy past, and the Internet, media, and fans across the globe look at him in many different types of way. Some love him, and some absolutely hate him. Ye addresses this in his verses, and speaks highly about his faith.

The first two Kayne verses of this song are more gospel/inspiration Kanye. But not over the top. I would listen to this song a few times before throwing it out. Kanye’s third verse is where he lets loose a bit more and raps about how much Kanye loves Kanye.

Travis Scott left us with seven bars. I am not a Travis Scott fan and this is not even enough to say he even has a verse on the song. But, the seven bars he did leave us with, they were not bad. Travis discusses the idea that the Bible says we shall not kill, though it is a legal form of punishment in thirty states. This is over half of the United States, which is outrageous. Something interesting to think about while we are on the topic of fixing our justice systems.

Let it off, set it off
Execution, thirty states
Thirty states still execute
Thou shall not kill, I shall not spill, Nextels at the rendezvous
We dodgin' time in the federal
Squad box you in like a sectional
We walk through the glass and the residue

I used love all of Kanye’s music. Now I’m just quite sure about it. I think this was a great track. Although, it is not likely to last long on my repeat playlist. Still, I like this direction and I am excited to take a trip to God’s Country. I am sure he has a lot to speak about, and hopefully finds a way for us all to heal.
