Wild N Out cast 2020

As I woke up this morning and opened up Twitter, something was wrong. People were talking about freeing Nick Cannon, telling him to move on to better things, asking people to stream his music, saying that - Wild N Out was cancelled. How could MTV or VH1 do such a thing? Wild N Out has aired twenty seasons and the New School vs Old School that was just airing now during this time, has been working out extremely well, bringing back some vets from there first few seasons. Apparently, it is a surprise to the cast as well, that the show may be over for good.

In recent weeks, many public franchises have let go of employers whom have spoken negatively on the Black Lives Matter movements, or condoned hateful and offensive speech. Viacom, a media agency owning networks such as CBS, BET, MTV and VH1 have chosen to fire Nick Cannon, as well as some others, for insensitive, potentially racist comments.

Nick Cannon has his own podcast, amongst plenty of other adventures, which is where the statements in question have taken place. The comments made were anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, which included blaming Jewish individuals for all of the wickedness around the globe. Though Nick Cannon may feel that with Wild N Out, anything goes, his superiors at Viacom were not happy with these comments, calling for his immediate dismissal from the brand.

Nick has been very vocal about his situation with Viacom, expressing he never meant any harm and is just trying to hold conversations for people to learn, including himself. Still, Viacom seems unwilling to hear any apology from Nick.

With Nick Cannon being let go of Viacom, what does this mean for Wild N Out? Wild N Out is obviously owned under the franchise, though strongly founded and executed thanks to Nick. An extremely long Facebook post from Nick describes his feelings on the situation, and demands full ownership from Wild N Out.

While this may be unlikely at this stage in the game, I am sure the cast members are with Nick one-hundred percent. He gave all of these people platforms, record deals and more. When pressed for comments on the Internet, the cast all seemed shocked and did not know anything more than we do as consumers.

Fans ask Nick Cannon to take Wild N Out elsewhere. They shame Viacom for ruining a huge platform for black talent. However, with the rights, there is not much Nick can do. Viacom likely will no longer air as normal, they held back last night’s new episodes. However, without Nick, will they move on, at all?

Who would have thought someone on a television show with DC Young Fly would get fired for insensitive comments. Truly saddening for all whom are fans of the show.
