YNW Bortlen Granted Bond
5.28.20
The case that keeps on taking a turn for the worse, or the better, depending on where you priorities lie. YNW Melly, ‘Murder on Mind’ artist, as well as another member of his collective, YNW Bortlen have both been sentenced for the murder of their two best friends, and staging it to look like a drive by. YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchase are the victims in this case. What once seemed like a closed case, is now turning in the complete opposite direction.
YNW Bortlen was originally charged with two counts of First Degree Murder and two counts of Accessory, to the murder of Juvy and Sak. Over the weekend, Bortlen was granted a bond to be put on house arrest for $180,000. (many reports say $75,000 - this was for one murder charge. There were two murder charges, and two accessory charges at $15,000 each). To complete a $180,000 bond, Bortlen may hand over property or something of the value of greater than $90,000. Bortlen may have no access to Melly or any other members involved in the families or friends of the case.
Due to the release of Bortlen, many believe that Melly may be returning home soon. Melly was charged with the death penalty, but will remain behind bars until his next court appearance on July 2nd. Does this mean Melly pulls a Tekashi 6ix9ine and goes from life to freedom in less than two years? Well, for one, he is not going to snitch on Bortlen. Really, the reason why Bortlen is home right now, is because of the fact that Melly refused to testify against him.
Shortly after the announcement of Bortlen’s release, word spread that there is “not enough evidence” to support the case. To this, YNW Juvy’s lawyer, John Phillips, calls fans delusional for thinking that YNW Melly is coming home. He states there is clear evidence that he is the murderer of Juvy and Sak. Though I believed this to be true as well, after the investigation of the vehicle and photos of such released, apparently this was not enough to get the job done. Below is the Tweet that shares the statement regarding lack of evidence, from @SaycheeseDGTL.
To me, it looks like this document is just stating that because Melly did not testify against Bortlen as his associate, there was not enough evidence to declare his involvement in a double murder. Then, by law, Bortlen is qualified for a bond. Also, I am not so sure that Phillips should be calling the world delusional during an open trial. If they did have enough evidence to book Melly for the death penalty, I am not so sure how they would not have what they need to call Bortlen an accessory.
So, is Melly coming home? We will have to wait and see. But I do know two things. Melly’s lawyer is Jason Williams, the same lawyer who got Boosie Badazz out of his murder case in 2012. Finally, if Melly does beat this, he’ll have a better welcome home than Tekashi 6ix9ine, so long as he really keeps Bortlen’s name out of his month come July 2nd.
