YNW Melly Update

YNW Melly is currently still sitting in jail, after testing positive for COVID-19. On April 3rd, Bradford Cohen, Melly’s lawyer, shared an Instagram post describing the emergency motion for release that he had submitted on Melly’s behalf. Claims state that Melly tested positive for COVID-19, as well as his cell mate. Though they are reportedly isolated from each other, Melly is displeased with the way he has been treated in jail, during his time of illness. Allegedly, the jails have not provided Melly with masks, nor sanitizer. He is given Gatorade and Tylenol for his symptoms. While told the guards would check on him once every hour, he claims this is notion is not being practiced to standard.

The family of victims YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser do not believe YNW Melly should be released. It is rumored that this may have a large reason why Melly’s request for release on house arrest has been denied. The judge cannot release inmates whom are convicted on violent charges, so if the families involved say they do not feel safe, we can assume that no release will be granted. Melly was told that he will need to ask for help from the Broward County’s Sheriff’s Office, if needed.

Many members in hip-hop are not happy with the fact that Tekashi 6ix9ine has been released. Rappers like Lil Mosey have shared their opinions that they are not willing to collaborate with 6ix9ine anymore, because he had snitched while on trial. Just twenty-four hours prior to YNW Melly asking for release due to testing positive for Coronavirus, 6ix9ine had been released on house arrest, just on precautions. With one man suffering in prison, and the other one healthy and free, many are left to voice their unhappy opinions on the matter. NLE Choppa took to Twitter to sharing his feelings that Melly should be released, especially after the release of 6ix9ine.

What else is quite interesting, is Melly’s outreach on Twitter, to none other than Kanye West. A tweet from Melly’s page asks Kayne West to reach out to him, and that he needs some help. Kanye West was on YNW Melly’s hit song ‘Mixed Personalities,’ so this could just be a tweet for attention. Maybe they have something else coming out, maybe Melly has been writing and wants to ask for another verse. However, what we’re all thinking is, Kanye and Kim are going to get Melly out of prison. Kim has been studying to become a lawyer, and has successfully helped to get thirty-four inmates out of prison since last year. Perhaps Melly believes that with his business relationship with Kanye West, the family would do him a solid in attempts to be released from prison.

YNW Melly may have been denied release, but he is not done fighting. Almost a month later, Melly is still claiming his symptoms are getting no better. He is reaching out for help, and others are rallying behind him. I still do not believe this is an innocent man, so I cannot wait to see what happens next.
