Travis Scott leaked this shoe while in the studio back at the beginning of quarantine. You’ve likely seen this shoe a million times by now. All your favorite YouTubers have it already; perhaps several which they’ve done giveaways with. Well, it is finally your turn to get your pair. This Friday, the latest Travis Scott x Nike collab will launch on the SNKRS app.

How do you continue the hype after already selling out several different collabs? Storytelling of course. Travis Scott and Nike came up with some sort of, website, that does nothing but tell a bit of a story, tying back to the “Cactus Trails” theme. Nike, sneaker YouTuber Brad Hall, and every retailer carrying the shoe blew up my Instagram feed last Friday with a map, leading to cactustrailstradingco.com. This site shows the swoosh symbol that is rumored to come with the shoe, so consumers can paint on their own swoosh logo. It also names each retailer where you may have your shot at copping. Finally, there are various different items displayed for sale. They’re all quite expensive, Travis Scott branded western elements. They are not actually items that you may physically purchase, but it seems like there will be some sort of AR that will be unlock when the shoe drops. Yesterday, multiple retailers posted a second time with a more simple map-like creative, that took you to the retailers website, to enter a draw for the launch.

I was excited about these sneakers at first glance. I think they’ve just been seen too many times already for me to still be excited about them. I think the paint job was done poorly on purpose, to tie back to dirty cactus trails, but I think it could have been done differently. The Tyler, The Creator ‘trail’ GOLF sneakers that came out two months ago are a better trail sneaker than this. I think that is more of the take I would have liked to see on this sneaker. Likely difficult to do with Air technology, but I think there is a lot of interesting room to play and make something real unique. Bigger traction on the bottom, maybe make it taller and more boxy. I do not really love the terrycloth material at the ankle, which would get destroyed on a dirt trail. Either way, this will be an instant sell out, and will resell for more.
