Gucci Mane has been with Atlantic Records since 2007. During a stint of time in 2013, he was dropped from the label after a Twitter rant where he talked negatively about the label. These were the hard times for Gucci Mane, and after cleaning his self up a bit, he rejoined the label in 2016. Four years later, Gucci speaks out on his label again. Whether or not he was truly ready to make this jump, he may no longer have a choice.

In a since deleted tweet, Gucci Mane stated that on July 3rd, he will be leaving Atlantic records, calling the label a “polite racist.” Some other tweets that seemingly fit together, include Gucci Mane calling the brand Gucci a polite racist, and saying that he hopes they all die of coronavirus, along with his haters. Additionally, he wants rappers to join him in protesting against their alleged racist labels.

This is not the first time that Gucci Mane has wished death by coronavirus on his haters, nor is it the first time that he has spoke negatively about his record label on Twitter. Where we today know Gucci Mane to be a clean, new man, he likely cannot use the same excuse as the previous incident, that he was on codeine and did not mean anything he had said. However, it seems these tweets all have a common theme, in regarding racism. Protests have fulfilled our country over the past few weeks, and large brands and corporations have vowed to make a change to protect our black community on a variety of levels. However, if these brands are not genuine or do not follow through with these vows, they will be considered even more wrong than before.

Not much information has surfaced around why Gucci Mane feels this way about Atlantic Records. I am going to use my best judgement and say that with the verbiage of the three of these tweets, Gucci is unhappy with how Atlantic Records has been handling the situation at hand, regarding the Black Lives Matter movements.

Other labels have been open about different notions they are making to be more aware and considerate of their actions. Republic Records have been open about recalling the verbiage of terms like “urban” or any common words in the music industry that could be found offensive or insensitive. Meek Mill has reported that every endorsement partner of his has to donate to a charity in Philadelphia, to support himself and his initiatives. Atlantic Records posted on Black Out Tuesday, but I have a feeling that Gucci was not happy with this and they way that they have handled the current events of our world.

So why July 3rd? Gucci Mane is waiting to release Gucci Mane Presents: So Icey Summer which currently has a release date of July 3rd. In the past, Gucci has spoken on going independent, so perhaps it is his time, once he finishes the work he had on his plate at Atlantic. The last time he pulled this stunt, Atlantic allegedly gave him a ten million dollar extension (which he told us in a Tweet). So, it will be interesting to see what happens this time around.

Personally, I think even putting the word “polite” in front of the word racist, is still one of the most incredible insults you can have, especially when working in the hip-hop industry. So, I do not really think that Atlantic tries to keep Gucci Mane, if he does choose to leave. They may even ask him to go after being put on blast again. On the other hand, I think Gucci has the ability to create something on his own. He has 1017, which has had its ups and down but he is learning the processes of the business. He knows how to make hits, and he knows how to coach the younger kids through the industry. So long as they listen and do not do him wrong. So, I think it is time for Gucci Mane to move on.

Is Gucci Mane leaving Atlantic Records?

Verdict: Whether he chooses or gets dropped, it' is the end of the road.
