Meek Mill FT Lil Uzi Vert Blue Notes II 9.1.21

Meek Mill dropped last New Music Friday, and said he was not waiting to drop again until the next one. Whether that be going up against Kanye West one week and Drake the next, or if he may have something else up his sleeve. The hits have been forming, and we have reasons to believe a new album is on the way.

Last Friday, Meek Mill finally released Sharing Locations, featuring Lil Baby and Lil Durk. We have known about this song since the top of 2021, and just finally it had been released. In addition to this, a few months back, Meek and Lil Uzi Vert had both shared a number of photos of themselves on bikes in the city. JT was even in some photos, and had been posting she was bothered by Uzi being out all night on bikes. It was clear that a new track between the two faces of Philly were on the way, and it is finally here.

Meek Mill just dropped Blue Notes II, featuring Lil Uzi Vert. The original track was on the Dream Chasers 4 album which dropped in 2016. Uzi was not on the original, but he was on the album. The music video does involve showing off on bikes, betting against one another, and flexing their cash. Meek takes the majority of the song, and speaks his truth about friends he’s lost, to death or betrayal. He sounds strong, true to himself, while being a bit more careful with his vocals rather than yelling everything he has to say. A lot of people have been comparing him to Lil Durk recently, he has not done much with MMG (as far as we know) as of late, and he lets people know he is not beefing with any friends or competition. They run together, or they simply are not friends. It’s a great track, that toys the line between a hard street record and a meaningful more preachy-esque record.

Uzi pops in and out of the verses with his own commentary. More playful and fun, as Uzi would. However he is calm and steady with the delivery, keeping up with the beat and the tempo. It feels like a version of their Froze collab, on a Blue Notes or Dream Chasers beat. Each artist has clearly grown a ton, which is shown from the bars, delivery, acting, and production of the track and video.

So Meek Mill has been consistently dropping singles, and he actually responds to a fan that asks when the album is dropping. On the 28th, Meek responded to a Tweet saying “What’s the chances of an album dropping.” To which, Meek replied “Like a matter of days lol.” Not only is New Music Friday on the way, but Made In America is happening this weekend, in Philadelphia. Lil Baby and Lil Durk are both on the lineup, and have a new song with Meek. I feel like there is no way Meek (and possibly Uzi) do not come out as surprise guests in their hometowns with new music on the way. It just seems mandatory!

Either way, I am looking forward to hopefully a new album on Friday. Which, I will listen to before Certified Lover Boy. Sorry not sorry. Wait - is this a rap beef reformulating!?
