Cardi B Says Hip-Hop Needs Her Help

Cardi B

Music has a tendency to change over time. The way it sounds, the beats, the technology used behind it, it is just bound to happen. Kind of like how our parents hate our music, and I am constantly wondering if I’ll be an old lady listening to what I listen to today. Cardi B calls out what new music in hip-hop sounds like, and it’s not great. Is she wrong, though? I do not really think so.

A video has gone viral of what appears to be Cardi B in a car at night time. Most likely, on the way home from a Halloween party of some sort, since it was quite dark and she does mention the clubs. She goes on to say that all new songs sound the same. She mentions she feels like she is listening to the same song over and over again, in which you can hear a friend in the back agreeing with. Not only that, but Cardi goes further to say that all the new rappers get some money, and waste it all on weed and lean, which makes their music boring, and is ruining the clubs.

This is where Cardi says that hip-hop and the clubs need her. When you go out to the clubs, you want to party and have a good time, not mope around. Cardi says these rappers taking too much lean “all want to die” and are ruining her turn up time. There is no doubt in our minds that Cardi will be consistent with the bangers, but it does bring up a scary point about what we have come to, in the realization that hip-hop is forever changing.

There are certainly a few different messages here. Though the way it was addressed was rather abrupt and not really empathetic, there is a substance abuse problem in the industry, and mental health has become a more than casual topic of discussion as of late. This is certainly something that does need to be addressed, and hopefully is fixed before becoming a larger issue than it already has been over the past few years.

Next, is the fact that hip-hop seems to be spiraling into an emo-rock-and-roll genre more than ever with the new wave of artists whom are constantly singing about their emotions and are proving to sound just like as Cardi B has announced. What is the future of hip-hop? Can we still save it?

It appears to be on a path to something completely different than what we have today. You see guys like Griselda whom we are holding onto so dearly because they remind us of what hip-hop truly is. But, you will never catch these guys on modern radio. If that’s where you’re listening, it might be over.
