Glo Rilla, Moneybagg Yo On Wat U On

Yo Gotti celebrates a big anniversary for one of his independent mixtapes, as his star artists release new single already doing numbers. It appears that CMG will continue to be a force of a label throughout 2023, and there is definitely some strategy to the success.

January 10th was earlier this week, the tenth anniversary of when Gotti announced CMG the label. In doing so, January 10th the Mixtape was created a self-released project for introducing the idea of the label, which would then go on to do incredible things.

Ten years, later, Yo Gotti has some of the hottest hip-hop artists in the game on his label. Two of them, being Moneybagg Yo and Glo Rilla. Moneybagg being a bit of a veteran on the label, and Glo Rilla being the latest and greatest, it was extremely intriguing to see what the two would do together, as they release a new single, together.

On Wat U On which released earlier today already has just about one million views on YouTube, and is the number three trending music video at the moment. In the song/music video, Glo Rilla and Moneybagg Yo actually play a couple, understanding that they are cheating on one another. The song is a bit of a conversation, going back and forth on the struggles of their relationship, and how petty they can each be. While a serious topic, you can tell they are having some fun putting this together, and utilizing their art form to share a relatable story.

Does this sound familiar? I am calling this the Memphis version of Kendrick Lamar’s We Cry Together. Am I mad at it? NO! I continue to think that Yo Gotti is a genius, and this further justifies my theory. Kendrick Lamar’s We Cry Together was brilliant, and no one will ever do it like he did. However, it was really, really deep, serious, and maybe a bit violent. You probably would not listen to that song for fun, or even more than a few times. On Wat U On as a song, again, they had fun with. The hook was super catchy. Guys and girls everywhere are going to be singing it all winter long into the summer. With a hook you can sing to, and energy that radiants instead of deteriorating emotions, this is going to be a song people continue to listen to, relate to, and maybe even use to help get through some things.

Some people listen to sad music when they are sad. But some, (me), listen to more upbeat music to turn their mood around. With this, the topic is understood and delivered, but in a way that can motivate, rather than put down. Five Stars, Yo Gotti.
