Ace Hood new album Mr. Hood Releasing 5.29.20

Ace Hood is preparing to drop his fourth project as an independent artist this Friday, entitled ‘Mr. Hood’. You may remember 2008 Ace Hood, where had a large roster of hits, from ‘Bugatti,’ to ‘Out Here Grinding,’ to ‘Cash Flow,’ to ‘Ride,’ to ‘Gutta.’ Ace collaborated with many great artists at the time, such as Plies, Akon, T-Pain, Rick Ross and many more. However, he was mostly widely recognized by being a part of DJ Khaled’s ‘We The Best’ label. If you are wondering what happened to Ace Hood, why has he not been featured on any of DJ Khaled’s new hits? It is not because Ace is older than Khaled’s new posey, but because Ace wanted out of ‘We The Best.’

In 2013 Ace Hood dropped ‘Trials & Tribulations’ with ‘We The Best’, and then disappeared from the music scene for four years. It was not until 2017 that Ace Hood came back to music with ‘Trust the Process.’ This project was definitely a story telling his fans why he had to leave the label. Becoming independent is a big deal for artists. They can drop what they want, when they want to. The rights to the tracks are completely all owned by the artist. Very much so, the artist may do business as they please. However, coming off a label like ‘We The Best’ has got to be difficult. If there is anyone who knows how to put out a summertime jam, a club record, the ultimate hit, it is DJ Khaled. Khaled has fan bases from different genres, he has been around for quite some time now, and above all, he knows how to do business. Every time Khaled put out a song during the Ace Hood timeframe, it was a crazy hit, and non easily duplicated on your own. I am sure Ace Hood wanted some power back to his own craft, causing him to make this move, but it makes sense why you probably haven’t heard the three independent projects he has put out since 2017.

So, will this new album catch your attention, as the new and improved (possibly) Ace Hood? Last night a single off the album with Jacquees dropped. There are now five songs out of fourteen available for streaming, if you just cannot contain your excitement until Friday. However, if you are expecting the ‘Buggati’ ‘Cashflow’ Ace Hood, change your expectations. Maybe you caught the gist from the album cover art, and the new name, Mr. Hood.

Personally, I think this could be the better fit of music style for Ace. Jacquees may not be the best co-sign or feature, but ‘12’Oclock’ is a hit for sure. This definitely reminds of R&B from the early 2000s all the way. A fun beat you can dance do, a chorus you can sign to, but with super scandalous lyrics on the verses. I get Lil Durk vibes from ‘We Ball’ and ‘Big Fish,’ which kind of makes sense since they are both apparently some sort of combination between rap music and singing music. I would love a collab with those two guys over the other features on this album.

I think I am going to be rocking with this album when I’m in chill mode. We’ll see where if it takes off anywhere for Mr. Hood.
