Melly’s Case Update

7.7.22

YNW Melly

It was 2019 when both YNW Melly and YNW Bortlen were arrested for allegedly murdering two of their friends in a vehicle, and covering it up as a drive-by. While the trial has been pushed back several times and has yet to take place, more new continues to unfold on the case.

YNW Bortlen had been granted bond back in 2020, leaving Melly behind to hold it down in the music space. About a year later, he got his bond revoked and was yet again arrested, for violating his parole terms. While YNW Melly pleaded not guilty back in 2019, he was denied bond numerous times, and was told that if found guilty during the trial, he could possibly be facing the death penalty.

There have been numerous delays on getting the trial started, even just over the past few months, due to prosecutors not being able to align on what may and may not be used as evidence. Previously, there have been discussions of tattoos and song lyrics being used as evidence in this case, which definitely would not be in the favor of Melly and team.

However, the latest update on the trial shares that in a recent preliminary hearing, the judge decided to side with Melly’s legal team, and has taken the death penalty off the table at this point in time. Melly’s mother has posted on her Instagram channels praising the news in hopes that Melly is coming home this year. While she has been known to prematurely share some things about this trial, Melly’s management team also shared this news to be true on Melly’s own Instagram handle, for all followers to see.

So, at the moment, it appears YNW Melly will not be tried for the death penalty, whenever the trial ends up happening. A step in the right direction, for YNW fans looking for Melly to be free, however, still a long way to go.
