Since the top of 2020, Gucci Mane has been on a mission to build a brand new 1017. At one point, there was question whether or not Gucci Mane would leave Atlantic Records and do this on his own, but he ultimately chose to stick with his label. While rebuilding 1017, Gucci quickly found his male artists, but was on the hunt for the two hottest females in rap music. Gucci finally found them, and has hopped on their latest track, No Luv.

The trip to rebuilding 1017 Records was not the easiest. The timeline goes way back to when Gucci Mane signed Young Thug, who then left after Gucci went to jail and could not be there to mentor Thug. Later, Ralo and Gucci Mane became best friends, which ended up dying out when Ralo went to jail. Asian Da Brat was Gucci Mane’s token female artist, who ended up asking to leave the label last year.

Gucci was quick to find two new male replacements to the collective, Foogiano and Ola Runt. Both rap artists from the south, they were much more in the streets than the new sound we hear in hip-hop today. I found that Ola Runt sounded like a brand new Ralo, which just made sense that Gucci latched onto his sound. This beautiful new relationship was very short lived, after Gucci felt Ola was not listening to him and wanted to do his own thing, so Ola is no longer with 1017 Records. Gucci was able to find two new artists in addition to Foogiano, who remain with 1017 today. New artists Big Scarr and Pooh Shiesty, along with Foogiano, can all be found on Gucci Mane’s latest project, So Icy Summer.

Gucci Mane found his two female artists, in Enchanting and K Shiday. We call them the So Icy Girls, however they will remain their own artists (not a duo like City Girls). Enchanting is a female artist from Fort Worth, Texas. She is small, but tatted from her head to her feet. I initially thought Gucci was going for the hardest out, but you could look at this in more ways than one. Enchanting sings R&B on many of her songs, but when she needs to lay some bars, she comes in fiery with the whispery raps. Representing the LGBTQ community while keeping a pretty girl persona I would say is pretty big for the hip-hop community. A really interesting find here.

K Shiday is also a female artist from Texas, with three college degrees and a military background. After spending seven and a half years in the military with a degree in law, K Shiday is another really impressive addition to the team. Like Enchanting, she also can rap, and sing. Though, her sound is definitely a bit more deep and rap, what you think you would hear from a newly found female rap star from the south. The two So Icy Girls can also be found on the So Icy Summer project.

In order to make 1017 the success that Gucci Mane wants, these new artists have to blow up. Gucci may have started as an underground artist from the south causing trouble everywhere he went. However, now, we hear him on radios doing features with Drake. The expectation from this new crew is high, but do they have what it takes?

One thing that is great that Gucci Mane does, is that he is so consistently putting out new music. With that, he has hopped on tracks with all the guys, and this past weekend, put out a song with the So Icy Girls. Gucci Mane, Key Glock, Big Scarr, Enchanting and K Shiday just dropped a new single, No Luv, with a visual to go along with it.

The beat to this song I can only describe as, scary. It is like a super deep electric guitar and bass drum, like the beat was intended for an intense screamo rock song. Gucci Mane and Big Scarr are wearing New 1017 apparel, while everyone sports their 1017 chains (minus Key Glock who is Paper Route Empire, but a great feature nonetheless). Gucci starts off the song with his verse, talking about how he is a clone and how he hopes his haters die of the coronavirus. It was fun, definitely some catchy lyrics in there. I really do not know about this beat, but it is cool that he went first, and ultimately leaves the anticipation for the ladies to shine in their song.

If you did not know who Big Scarr was at this point, he sounds exactly like Young Dolph. I literally was confused at one point if that was Big Scarr or Key Glock, because he sounded, and quite frankly looks quite similar to his right hand, Dolph. It is so interesting that Gucci has really built so many individuals to be such great artists that can then go on to do what he did for them, to others. When Dolph first came out, Gucci made dozens of songs with him. Now, Dolph has given the same opportunity to Key Glock. Gucci Mane seems to be quite on board with this series of events, as he brings in new talent, and Key Glock together, on his co-founded track.

The girls come in next. Enchanting is on her whisper song sound. It looks like her and Gucci Mane are best friends as they rap each other’s verses together against the car. She looks really confident, and overall, her verse is not bad. K Shiday rocks a pink wig in the video, and takes a more aggressive rapping approach to her verse. She embraces the “pretty but ratchet” persona, and you can definitely hear this in her delivery. Both their verses were executed really well, but I just am not sure if this is something that is going to stick.

Megan Thee Stallion is a rapper from Texas. She likes to show us that she can rap once in a while, but when she does, it is never on beat, it usually does not flow or rhyme the way a rap song should. She is the hottest thing there is right now, because she used her personality to get through to many different people in the industry, and she changed her sound in order to make music for everyone.

The beat on No Luv was hard for sure. Everyone did their thing on their individual verses, and the collective together looked so great, you for sure would not want to mess with this group. However, where the hip-hop industry is growing rapidly with female artists who are popping off, they really need to be out there and something special. The girls have both said in interviews that they feel no pressure to change their sound or who they are after singing to the label. But is this going to stick, and become main stream? Has the new generation of hip-hop fans moved on from this?

I would definitely like to see Gucci Mane promote this a bit more. He is on the track, so I am surprised I have not seen much yet. As much as I want these females to succeed, I want Gucci to succeed at 1017. It is definitely not easy to take on this take yourself and make everyone a superstar. With a newly announced baby on the way, Gucci is going to be busy, but I am sure he will do anything he can for a bag for the baby.
