Floyd Mayweather, Logan Paul Fight Night 6.6.21

If you have gone so far to check your timelines this morning, you likely know that the Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul boxing match went down last night, and we have a lot to cover. A Sunday evening Showtime Pay Per View brought celebrities to Miami to watch four boxing matches, a few performances and plenty of entertainment. However, some are quite displeased with the main event outcome.

The Main Event of the night of course was between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul. Though, there were of course some prelims. The first was between MMA Fighter Brian Maxwell, and Chad Johnson. Yes, Ocho Cinco. This fight was an exhibition fight, meaning there would be no judges to score a winner. You would go the distance, or loose by knockout or referee stoppage. While just four rounds, Ocho Cinco managed to go the distance, and really impressed many people. This was his first time boxing, and he held his own, though getting knocked down just once at the end. To him, the point was to continuing to live your dreams and check things off of your bucket list, and this was one of them.

The following two fights were true boxing matches, that did have winners. While the ring was covered overhead, they were in the middle of an outdoor arena. In rained quite heavily throughout parts of the night, and there were a lot of slowing down and stopping during these two fights, because of how slippery the canvas would get from the rain coming in sideways. However, online reports that said cancellations or rain delays were happening, was quite the stretch to what had actually gone on.

In the past few amateur fight nights, Snoop Dogg had been in attendance to commentate. While he was not at this fight, Desus and Mero were there shedding their take on the events, and had a lot to contribute. They were both very much in favor of Floyd Mayweather knocking out Logan Paul, which seemed to be the overall consensus of many announcers and hosts that were in attendance.

When it finally came time for the main event, we had two quick performances. The first performance were the Migos, who performed a new song, Straighten’. It was interesting as they basically did the tunnel walk as they performed. Cardi B was a very proud wife sharing the moment watching it on her phone, and cheering on her husband, and as she called “her cousins.” Take Off looked like his white tee was a little too small, but at least he had a full verse on the song and got to prove he was not left off of this one.

Logan Paul enters the ring wearing his yellow shorts and robe, and his Pokèmon chain. Allegedly, this chain is a Charizard Pokèmon encased with a diamond chain around it, which Logan said was a million dollar chain. Logan’s brother Jake was not in his corner, but was sitting right up front in all white, cheering on his brother like crazy.

Floyd Mayweather enters the ring second. Back in 2013, Mayweather fought Canelo Alvarez, and was escorted out of the tunnel with Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne, who performed A Milli during the walk out. Last night, Mayweather had Moneybagg Yo beside him, whom performed Time Today during his entrance. This got the crowd super hyped up, and of course makes sense to have Moneybagg and Money Mayweather together. Floyd was wearing white and green alligator, and a number of his children were up front to watch him perform, as well.

This fight was scheduled eight-three-minute-rounds exhibition style as well, so there would be no judges dubbing a winner. Of course, everyone had anticipated and hoped to see a knockout, which brings great excitement, and would then declare an obvious winner. However, this finish did not come. Floyd and Logan went the distance, and seemingly both respected each other very much during their speeches at the end.

An un-official scorecard of the night gave Logan a 10-9 victory over Floyd in the second round, however the rest went to Floyd. Overall, Floyd landed 40% of his punches, while Logan was landing 13%. I guess that is what happens when you step into the ring with a defensive champion.

Jake Paul seemed to be extremely happy with his brothers performance, dubbing Floyd was now 50-1. Floyd Mayweather went into the fight with a 50-0 undefeated record. Although the exhibition does not go on your professional record, Jake is simply suggestion he believes his brother won the fight. Speaking of Canelo Alvarez, he responded a facepalm emoji to Jake sharing these thoughts. Naturally, Jake responded saying he would eat him alive. A potential new fight on the way? We shall see.

Artist Blueface was in attendance at the show, but was quite unhappy when no knockout arrived. He said he paid $12,000 for his tickets, and thought it was a huge waste of time and money. He even turned to Akon and said “hey Akon, wasn’t this the worst fight of all time?” Akon did not seem to want any part of that and laughed it off. Not everyone is as understanding of the game and the skills involved, so a knockout is all they came to see.

On the other hand, Brendan Schaub whom is a former MMA fighter and current Below The Belt Podcast about fighting host, congratulates Logan and declares it a win, as well. He shared on Instagram going back stage to chat with Logan about what he saw. Brendan shared that the first two rounds, Floyd was definitely just feeling out Logan and seeing what he could do, but after that he put in his work to take him down. Surviving in a ring for eight rounds with Floyd Mayweather? That is something anyone should be proud of.

While it may seem like the Paul’s are crazy kids that will do anything for money, including dangling their own lives, Logan did some super appreciative of the experience. On top of that, the earnings were vastly different, from what has been reported. Allegedly, Floyd would make $10 Million from the fight, and Logan just $250,000. From the Pay Per View earnings, Floyd would receive fifty percent, and Logan just ten percent. While I would love to earn just ten percent of Logan’s $250,000, this is now common knowledge and he knew exactly what he was doing. It seemed more like an honor and a dream of his, rather than a celebrity death match which his brother Jake seems to enjoy.

Whether or you love or hate the Paul Family, whether or not you wanted to see someone get knocked out, it was another entertaining night. Next up, little brother Jake Paul versus Tyron Woodley on August 28th.
