The QB Golf Match
5.26.20
Over the weekend we got a taste of some sports that we’ve all been missing. This time, it was for charity. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning each teamed up with a legendary professional golfer, and played 18 holes for $20 million charity donation for coronavirus relief funds.
A third quarterback, Russell Wilson, called in while watching the guys from home. Wilson pledged to donate 100,000 meals to the COVID-19 relief fund, for each athlete to get their ball within twelve feet of the 16th hole. Three out of the four hit their marks, so Wilson is donating 300,000 meals. Do not be fooled by what you heard, Brady made it within twelve feet. Tiger just missed it this round.
For an amazing cause, and some serious athletes that do not enjoy loosing, there was a lot of fun. Tom Brady did pretty poorly the first nine holes, to where Charles Barkley, NBA analyst was giving him a hard time. To that, Tom Brady sunk the ball from 100 yards, then ripped his pants going to pick up the ball. Every whole he asked his partner, Phil Mickelson, where he wanted Tom to aim and what he wanted Tom to do. It was fantastic to watch.
Peyton worked well with Tiger Woods, and they ended up winning by one hole. What really freaked me out about Peyton, was his driving the golf cart. There were webcams in each of the carts to get kind of a, behind-the-scenes perspective. It looked like Peyton was driving the cart so fast, going across a tiny bridge, and he was not even paying attention. At one point, he was drinking his water bottle, no hands, no eyes, nothing. I could not believe no one got hurt.
Peyton’s golf cart was decked out in logo decals. From the Colts, to the Broncos, even to college logos. Tom Brady’s cart was simply branded with a TB12 logo. While, some may have taken this the wrong way, I think Tom is just a simple guy. He probably likes his plain black golf cart, with just simple branding, that being his own brand. I also think if he included both logos, Tampa Bay fans might think it’s weird and presume Tom would go back after one year. Then if you leave out the Patriots, it’s just plain disrespectful to your life-long home base. Either way, I think he probably just wanted a simple cart. But we can act like this was suspicious for some added drama.
Earlier this year when tournaments were in action, Tiger had pulled out from a number of tournaments due to a back injury. After winning with Peyton, he shared that he feels great and is ready to get back to work once golf tournaments resume on June 11th.
