Worse Than Anticipated: Coronavirus Updates
3.12.20
Over the past few days, I was over hearing about the coronavirus. It was all that anyone had anything to say about, and it felt like we were not living our lives. In the past 12-24 hours, it seems like everything has changed. The NBA and the NHL has suspended their seasons, with no word on when it will pick back up again. The NCAA has cancelled all of their mens and women’s championships for the season, so there will be no March Madness. The MLB has postponed Opening Day at least two weeks, while cancelling all Spring Training Games. Opening Day was originally supposed to be March 26th, but the MLB will continue to monitor the situation before finding a new date.
The suspension of the NBA occurs after Rudy Gobert from the Utah Jazz tasted positive for the coronavirus. This happens just shortly after Rudy does a press conference and making a point to put his hands all over the microphones, and run around carelessly in the locker room. How cute. Doesn’t this just go to show us that we are not above anything, and whatever this pandemic is, it is really happening and we need to take care of ourselves.
On top of this, Charles Barkley is currently in self quarantine. He was not feeling well after a trip to New York, and is currently awaiting the results from a coronavirus test.
I remember thinking, oh this better get better before baseball season. But no one is taking any chances, and it seems like the whole world is on hold. It is really sad for college seniors who won’t get their senior game. Guys like Vince Carter whose end to his final season is questionable. What about the young guys in Spring Training who won’t get the chance to prove themselves before the season? It’s so sad and I’m still kind of in shock that it is actually happening. I guess we’ll see where it pans out from here.
