America: A Lexicon Of Fashion

5.3.22

The Met Gala is an iconic night for the fashion industry, and celebrities across the board from music, acting, fashion, and everything in between (wherever you put the Kardashians). Last night’s theme was America: A Lexicon Of Fashion which brought many gorgeous, details gowned, as well as a few questionable ones. Who was best dressed? let’s find out.

Jack Harlow has been the man of the hour for quite some time now, so it makes sense that he received his invite this year to the Met. Jack wore a silky dark brown suite, nothing too crazy, but what I would expect from him. Classic, nice look.

Chloe Bailey, another one who has all the lime light on her. Perhaps why she chose this yellow-gold dress, which looks like it was morphed together by the spell of the golden snitch, wrapped around her neck.

Winnie Harlow’s look was one of my favorites. The crown was intense, but cute and subtle. The dress had extensive details, but she wore it so well. The reveal from the matching sneakers to the heels, she crushed. It feels the theme was met but the roots of America, building up to this luxurious world of fashion.

Nyjah Huston. Was not expecting his presence, but I enjoy what he did here. The all blue suite with no under shirt, totally Nyjah and his style. Classic, with quite a bit of edge. One of my favorites from the male side of the night.

Alicia Keys certainly showed up with the theme in mind, as well as her own brand. POV: NYC is America. She looked stunning with her fitted bedazzled dress, and the NYC landscape just being a part of a throw over cape was genius.

Teyana Taylor, a fashion icon in every sense of the word. In every genre or style or fashion. She has the game on lock, and proved so with her wavey ocean blue gown and ornate headpiece.

Megan Thee Stallion was in the building, and I am sure got a lot of positive feedback on the look. Completely detailed in gold, it is not something anyone could purchase. However, not as extreme as she could have gone. I do not love the feathered shoulders, but other than that, I believe it is a great look.

Future looks somewhat like the gatekeeper of a dungeon, but I am super into it. The high-low jacket covers the suit shorts, for a fancy, but fun look. The Mask On artist also pulled up with a bedazzled mask, which if we are being honest, was a smart move during times that Covid is still running ramped.

Cardi B looks like a big bag of money and she look gorgeous. There is a way to wear gold and make it look beautiful. There is a way to do something extra, use ironic textiles, and it could go one way or the other. Combining both of these items together, that is difficult. But she pulled it off without a doubt.

When you see Erykah Badu on the Red Carpet, you step aside. She IS fashion. She IS influence. She IS the Met Gala. When you think of ornate fashion designs, pieces that should not be wearable, but the are. From music to fashion and everything in between, Erykah is the legend we love to see, every single year.

Nicki Minaj apparently got into a little tiff with a reporter, or someone on the sidelines of the Red Carpet. Allegedly, someone had leaked her appearance to the Gala, and she threatened to slap him in the face. I did not love her outfit, but I guess it gave Black Swan vibes, if you are into that.

Of course the Kardashians showed up in full and stole the show, for many. Kim and Khloe looked amazing in their slim, golden dresses. Interesting to see Pete Davidson on Kim’s arm, but he looked nice. The rest, I did not love. Travis and Kourtney definitely tried something, but someone looked like Travis was a butler of an old haunted mansion and was unweaving the mummy he found in the basement: i.e: Kourtney. Kylie looks like a little girl whose mom made her wear a dress when she wanted to wear her baseball uniform.
