Styling an Athletic High Top Sneaker

10.8.20

Styling sneakers is slowly becoming more easy and the average. However, when you get a really nice looking sneaker, that is clearly more athletic than fashion, things may get a little tricky. Loungewear is the hottest trend, so we can easily go that route, but we can take our time and dress these up too.

I love the Adriana Lima x PUMA LQD CELL sneakers. They are a sleek hightop with an extremely comfortable knitted upper, exposed lacing system, and really nice looking red details on the midsole and outsole. These are my airplane shoes, my errands shoes, but obviously I need to take them for a spin on the dress-up end as well. I used the same colors to have them blend into these looks, and accessories to compliment the sporty-yet-fashionable look throughout.

Young & Reckless & Free

This track suit is my favorite of all time. It actually may have been the first matching set I have purchased. The crop is the perfect crop, and it has ties not just at the hood, but also at the hem, so you can wear it baggy or fitted. The pant fits perfect and with the cinched ankles, you can adjust them to the right height to show off your kicks. The overall red look with little lighter details is the invert colorway of the sneaker, which is always a great pairing. Take this look on any sporty journey or errands.

Fly Away

The ultimate airplane first. Sports bra, sweater, high waisted legging and some sneakers. You could also wear it going to get your smoothies or açaí bowls, pretending like you actually just worked out. Sportswear, athlesiure, whatever you want to call it, is always a good look when you are on the move, or are just feeling appreciative of yourself and your body.

Fiery Dragon

This one is my turn heads look of the week. Everyone is rocking biker shorts and crop tops and their favorite sneakers. I love the babydoll tee with the mini ribbed hems on the waist and the sleeves. This makes the tee just a tiny bit cropped. The red dragon is an important detail to tie in with the sneakers. Not to mention, these biker shorts have red Los Angeles pin stripes down each side. The combination is great, and you really can’t say you don’t have that badass Cali girl vibe with this look. To continue the badass theme, when necessary, throw on (or tie around your waist) this distressed denim and sweater jacket. It is loose, cozy, cute and chill all in one. Just like this entire look.

Keep It Classy 101

Here is your classy look, your work look, depending on how you accessorize, or what black top you choose, it could be your going out look. The key here is the all-black-look, and skinny jean on the bottom. The denim being black, and a skinny ankle will allow the hightop part of the sneaker to seamlessly blend into the rest of your outfit. I like this top because its multiple layers, looks cropped in the front even though you’re still covered in the middle, and flares out in the back. It gives the look an overall graceful and elegant look. However, you could also wear a fitted black top or bodysuit if this is your nighttime vibe. Accessorize with some bling, and you are down to look good and feel even better.

Sweater Dresses & High Sock SZN

Because pants are just so overrated, right? I want to wear dresses year round, and frankly, I do. I love this sweater dress it is super cozy, has an adjustable collar, and huge sleeves. You might think a dress with these sneakers is crazy, but again, accessorizing goes a long way. Take these thigh high socks that you always wear with your dresses and boots, and similar to your skinny jeans, the sneakers will blend right in to the rest of your look. You are going to be so cozy and look so insanely cute. Bring on the fall and winter, too.

Fashion Week Ready

A silky jumpsuit and the coolest trainers of them all. This jumpsuit has the ability to look like pajamas, or like you’re going to meet the Queen, you just have to dress it up correctly. No matter where you’re going, or probably somewhere in between, a few nice accessories make this one of my favorite and most practical looks. The pants are skinny, but loose. This means you can hide the hightop, or adjust the ankles to tuck them in or behind the sneakers to show off the entire silhouette. The peaks of red at the bottom will draw attention to your feet, then the whole outfit together. Wear it a smile and confidence, and take it anywhere you need to go.
