Styling the Air Max 180 Hi “AMBUSH”

6.11.20

One may find that this style in particular, does not look like an Air Max 180 at all. However, if you take a look at the sole and the air technology bubble, you’ll find that this is the perfect remake of a running sneaker, to a luxury fashion remix of the classic silhouette.

Yoon Ambush is a Korean-American jewelry designer, graphic designer and fashion designer whom has had multiple really great collaborations with Nike. When Ambush launched this silhouette, I remember hearing that men were more excited about this drop than the ladies. Although, it did not release in a full men’s size run. I can imagine that being because this is a unique silhouette we’ve never seen before, different materials on the upper than we’re used to, a high top with a zipper rather than a lacing system. Basically, a glove boot. Still, I find excitement in styling outfits for the most outrageous sneakers on the market. I’ve worn these sneakers with an oversized t-shirt as a dress, and I’ve worn them with a nicer outfit, as well. So whatever your style may be, I guarantee you can rock these, too.

Since the two colorways that were released used a variety of white, black, tan and gray, I also have a monochrome theme going on with these six looks.

Just Kickin’ It

Nothing is better when you put in zero effort to your fit, but you still look banging. These kicks are a show stopper whether you love them or hate them. Why not show them off by throwing on a short dress, but make it causal. This hoodie dress is super cozy, with floral stitching on each sleeve the keep it cute while remaining absolutely effortless.

War Ready

The material of these sneakers is a synthetic, textured material. Almost like a rain jacket, with a rough khaki lining holding its firm shape. This made me think of these camo print pants, that cinch at the ankles to show off the high-top shoe, but are also slightly baggy just as the sneakers appear. To offset the bagginess of the bottom, I have a fitted long-sleeve, deep v-neck bodysuit. This outfit brings several different levels of fierce, having you ready for just about anything.

Boardwalk Vibes

Shorts and high-top sneakers are only intimidating if you let them be. Here I have a matching set that is perfect for the beach, or just right for lunch on the boardwalk if you add a lacy bandeau to the top. The color combo is great, the zippers and upper material give them a chill vibe overall, you’ll basically feel like a California skater girl, or surfer. But really, you just look like the dopest girl on the boardwalk.

Business Casual

Business casual, or business AND casual? Blazers have been an increasingly growing hott trend, and there is just so much fun to be had with them. I kept it neutral with a black blazer, with little gold button embellishments on the wrist and closures. A flowy white tank underneath keeps its causal. Then, offset the flow with a pair of biker shorts. Plenty of space the show off the sneakers, remain comfortable, and still look pretty cool and professional. Accessorize where necessary for some extra flare.

Bike Life

You do not really have to ride a bike, but inspiration comes from anywhere. Of course, these hightop sneakers look great with a pair of black skinny jeans. Let’s make it a bit more interesting by topping it off with this cut-out bodysuit, and if needed per the weather, a leather jacket. No one can stop you, and no one is going to mess with you, in this fierce and hott look. I’d wear it to a bar, a concert, anywhere you need to look badass and show off a bit.

Stylish Sneakerhead

Of course we have to dress them up one time! I love wearing sneakers with dresses, and I think it is becoming more the norm now that brands are pairing up with luxury or high-end fashion brands to create something more elevated. So, we have to do this with the Ambush collaboration. I have a long, silky black dress with a middle slit leaving the perfect flair to show off the shoes. The black elongates the black pull tab on the sneakers, while this light tan leather jackets pulls together the details of the similar colors on the sneakers. Overall the look feels super cohesive, even though you probably thought you could only wear pants with these. I’d rock this look at any big function.
