34 & 8
6.10.21
Gucci Mane recently announced the release of his upcoming album, Icy Daddy. Being the new father that he is, he will be releasing the album on June 18th, the Friday before Father’s Day. The album cover features his baby, Ice, whom Gucci is dubbing the executive producer of the album. The album is available for pre-sale, where we can see there will be a full, seventeen track playlist, once revealed. Today, we received the second single, featuring Pooh Shiesty.
The name of the track is titled 34 & 8, with album artwork that features each of the 1017 artists rocking Lakers jerseys with their names on the back. Obviously, Kobe Bryant was known for wearing number 8. Shaq wore 34 during his time as a Laker. There is certainly significance to these numbers within the track.
Gucci Mane honestly kind of sounds like old Gucci. Rhyming with the same syllables for a whole verse, talking crazy. One bar that hit the hardest, was hearing him call Pooh Shiesty his Kobe.
Shiesty, that’s my Kobe Bryant, ain’t no way I’m tradin’ the man
Gucci has a whole team of artists on his label, and has seen an immense amount of talent come in and out of his crew. He clearly sees something special in Pooh Shiesty, where he would compare his artist to one of the world’s greatest and favorite athlete of all time.
What is quite unfortunate about this matter is, Pooh Shiesty turned himself into authorities earlier this week, over a connection to a shooting in Miami. Allegedly, Pooh Shiesty had performance at King of Diamonds. Later on, someone had knocked money out of his pockets, and to which he turned around and fired off a shot. Word is that a witness saw him hand off the weapon to someone else in his clique, whom than fled the scene.
Now, Gucci Mane is down two artists, with Foogiano going through a similar incident, just a few weeks ago.
In Pooh Shiesty’s verse, he pulls together the single artwork, with his line addressing both Shaq and Kobe.
Throw the lob up to Wop like Kobe and Shaq
Clearly showing his respect for his boss, and claiming their top two spots in the game. However, Pooh actually started off his verse by saying he could get dropped if he ever got caught slipping - is this a hint!?
I told Wop he could drop me, he catch me outside with my chains tucked
Well, he was certainly caught slipping and is due to appear in front of the judge today. WOP dropping this song, sounds like not much can get in between them, but it also seems like Shiesty was supposed to stay well off.
I do not necessarily think Gucci is going to go as far as to drop Pooh Shiesty for this situation. I think for him and Foogiano both, it will depend how long they will be gone for Gucci to have to make a real decision. However, all this legal drama aside, I think Gucci has a favorite. Pooh Shiesty was his new star.
Overall, I think the album will be really dope. So far two singles have been released, this one with Pooh Shiesty, and another with Big30. I am expecting to hear BigWalkDog on the project, and I would love to hear a feature with maybe some others outside of 1017. What about a reunion between Gucci and Nicki, as new parents?! Now, I know I am on to something here.
