A Monkey in a Bape Hoodie

NFTs have been the hottest topic on the market lately, for all types of creators. Many musicians in hip-hop have learned the trade, and either began purchasing NFTs, or even making them a part of their music catalog. However, not everyone is on board. Tyler, the Creator recently did an interview which had everyone in hysterics, as he gave his opinion on what NFTs are all about.
Tyler, the Creator sat down to speak at the 2022 Converse All Star Series. The series is all about the brand creating an open environment for creators, and listening to their peers to find new ways to be inspired and listen to open dialogue to those whom have influencer in the culture. Tyler kicked off the series in style, and discussed many things about his creative process, music, fashion and what keeps him inspired. The full chat is certainly worth the view, but what he is trending for, is his thoughts on NFTs.
NFTs have been rising in popularity in the hip-hop space. Many have begun to change their social icons to NFTs, like Fat Joe. Meek Mill dropped a project as an NFT. Snoop Dogg even says that Death Row Records will be the first NFT record label. However, Tyler, the Creator is not really with all of that.
During his chat, he asks, What Is An NFT? He says, if I’m really outside, going on hikes, long car rides, bike trails, etc., what is an NFT? He continued to call them “monkeys in a Bape hoodie,” and while expressing his love and appreciation of art, he has not seen anything to really wow him since. For those reasons, he is steering clear of the NFT world.
What are your thoughts on NFTs? Do you agree with Tyler, the Creator, or is your monkey in a Bape hoodie worth millions?
