Accountability in 2023
1.3.23
Okay guys, 2023 has finally started, and we have already witnessed a lot. But what are we going to do with everything that has gone on thus far? What are your goals for this year? How about: accountability. This has been on my mind lately, and I am curious how everyone else feels.
When your favorite artist messes up, do you hold them accountable, or let it slide? What if it happens, over and over again? Do you expect your favorite artist to be a leader for their own artists, or protege? There is one person in particular, whom I love, but has been making me ask all of these questions. Gucci Mane, let’s fix the New 1017.
It was Gucci Mane going to jail and Young Thug leaving the label, for Gucci to understand that he could not be there for Thug, so he had to let him go. Thug would then turn into one of the largest artists in the game. But now, Gucci Mane is this new and improved version of himself, however it seems like the label keeps repeating the same mistakes.
You have Ralo, Yung Mal, Hoodrich Pablo Jaun, Foogiano and Pooh Shiesty. Then you have the problematic cases with the artists Gucci has signed and dropped in days (Ola Runt, Baby Racks). The latest? New 1017 artist, Mac Critter, has allegedly been arrested for first degree murder. Since the arrest, Mac Critter’s team has shared on his page that he believes Mac will be home soon, and his team is still handling business and lining up interviews and features for his return.
On one hand, it is always so interesting to hear about “The New 1017” and learn all these new artists. Gucci does always seem to find the best ones. That may be why it is so difficult that they are so quick to throw it away, as they cannot seem to stay out of trouble. Now I do not believe that one man can change someone’s mind so quickly by giving them a piece of paper and a chain, but I cannot help but think this is gone a little too far, and someone like Gucci Mane should be able to be somewhat of a teachable, role model, to these kids whom look up to him, and have truly given them the opportunity to stay out of trouble.
Who are we holding accountable? Or is it strictly #Free1017?
