COVID19 Giving Your Least Favorite Rappers a Second Shot at Life

I talked a bit about this situation on the Tekashi 6ix9ine case in the debate section of the blog, but since then, I have an update on the situation. It seems like prisoners are asking for release, left and right, due to the Coronavirus. Due to the Coronavirus, California is set to release 3,500 inmates early. I think overall this goes to show you a couple of things. Firstly, that our law enforcement is punishing people that do not need to be punished, or at least as harshly as they are, since they’re willing to let go of so many of these inmates. Secondly, the medical care at these facilities are not equipped to care for the population they are housing.
Tekashi 6ix9ine was originally sentenced to forty-seven years in prison for racketeering, violent drug trafficking, and gang affiliation conspiracies. After, “cooperating” with the authorities, and sharing with them everyone whom was involved in specific crimes, and then some, 6ix9ine got his sentence shortened to two years. While 6ix9ine was due home at the end of this year, he has asked for an early release due to the current state of Coronavirus. Being as 6ix9ine has chronic asthma that makes him vulnerable to the virus, the judge has set 6ix9ine free. He will spend four additional months on house arrest, but let’s be real, the world is serving that sentence right now. Since Tekashi 6ix9ine has underlying issues that could cause the virus to be more effective if he were to catch it, I understand they needed to let him go. They do not want to be responsible for his health, or him getting others around him sick. However, I’m not sure this should be the case for everyone. I’m also still very unclear how he went from life to two years, in the first place.
The latest update, is that YNW Melly is actually a confirmed victim to the Coronavirus, and asking to be released. YNW Melly is charged of murdering two of his best friends, and attempting to cover up the crime. Originally being tried for the death penalty, Melly’s attorneys have been pushing to say that there is not enough evidence to be convicted. First, Melly’s mother was telling the press he was getting out of jail. Meanwhile, he was simply him releasing a new song. Three days ago, she spoke out saying that his release date was being pushed back due to the Coronavirus. I suppose maybe they could be postponing trials, but this doesn’t make sense. Someone needs to keep her in check before she hurts her sons chances of actually making it home. I personally don’t think he should have a release date at all, but just hours after the release of Tekashi 6ix9ine, YWN Melly requests an early release, as well.
With how this case is progressing, or lack of progressing, and the state of the virus spreading, I think he will be home soon. Melly’s attorney said the establishment is not even providing so little as hand sanitizer to keep the inmates relatively clean. There is absolutely no way for the jails to monitor this situation, and keep a healthy facility. If Melly has indeed tested positive for Coronavirus, they will be letting him off on house arrest.
What happens next, when this is all over? Do they bring him back? Do they have enough to deal with, and call it time served? Either way, Melly is going to putting out so much more music, he’ll have money to figure his way around the system. We knew he’d get out of this once he hired the attorney that got Boosie out of his murder case. It just seems like the Coronavirus is kind of a cop-out to get out of jail. But who am I to speak on jailbirds.
I’m not worried about Tekashi 6ix9ine being a danger, other than to himself. I think he needs to watch out for his own protection in the free world. After being called a snitch to his gang members, his friends, his hip-hop community, and leaving prior to time served due to an illness that hasn’t even happened yet. YNW Melly I’m more worried about him being a danger to others. Not to myself personally, but he is just so extremely violent and detailed in all of his music and songs. There is no doubt in mind that he participated in the crime, and is going to get let off easy. Maybe the music will set him straight, it does seem like he has a lot of people riding his wave.
Either way, I think it insane that the jails are releasing people early due to Coronavirus. Perhaps they should rethink this about everyone who is in there, due to petty mistakes. Additionally, look into ways to becoming a more humane place to shelter people.
Not to get political here. I’m interested to see the music we get from these two now they that are free, or on their way to becoming free.
