The New1017

Gucci Mane is looking for a new team, and where better to start than the streets of Instagram? The first announcement of Gucci looking for a new artists, comes just a day or two after Asian Doll is released from 1017 Records. After Asian Doll tweets that she had actually requested being dropped from the label, we may be quick to call Gucci Mane petty, which he is. However, he's turned all of his bad addictions into a money addiction, and if he wants to use this as a way to rebuild his empire, I am all the way here for it.
So, one million dollars to the first person Gucci Mane signs to 1017 Records. Gucci Mane signs Foogiano from Georgia. He has two hit singles out, ‘Molly’ and ‘Trapper Remix’ which features Lil Baby. I’m pretty excited for this, because Gucci is going to pull out the hardest from the south. The south right now is a bit different, with the autotune vocals and focusing on beats of bars (Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, Playboi Carti, etc.). Since Gucci Mane has been relevant in the Ludacris/Crime Mobb era, and is still relevant within this new wave of hip-hop kids, he is going to be able to take the old-school street style artists, and get them seen again in today’s world.
Foogiano’s song ‘Molly’ is starts off crazy, as his whole crew of ten to fifteen guys are all jumping around him rapping the words to his song. I currently can’t tell if the song is good at all, but if your whole crew is jumping around in the streets all hyped up to their homeboy’s song, it’s going to make you hyped up for what’s to come, or at least interested. Getting into the real song, I actually like it a lot. You can hear the south in his voice, and he sounds like the old southern hip-hop. Like, a mix of Lil Boosie and Shawty Lo with the southern accent and high note twangy sounds. Following this up with a Lil Baby feature is perfect, because it shows that Foogiano can hang with today’s kids, even if he’s not on that autotune business of the rest of the class.
Gucci Mane has posted clips from each of the videos. Foogiano received a 1017 icy chain and five hundred million dollars up front. He will receive the second five hundred million after the album, which we should receive on May 1st. Let’s see if he can make Guwop proud.
Ola Runt is the second artist to sign to the New 1017. Another artist from Atlanta, and to be honest, this one scares me a bit. He’s definitely been involved in a lot of controversy in the past. You can tell from the content in his music, the things he posts on his page, it is written all over the place. Hopefully, with the guidance of the New Guwop, everyone stays in line and focuses on the music and the money. Why I bring this is up, is because Ola Runt sounds exactly like Ralo. I’m listening to ‘Mama Tried,’ which you can hear a clip of on his Instagram page. As I’m listening, I’m like, I know who this is. It hit me, that it was Ralo. Gucci Mane signed Ralo in 2017, but since then, he has been locked up and being held without bond, for smuggling two million dollars worth of marijuana and gang conspiracy charges. They now have a lot going on amongst each other. I believe Ralo feels like Gucci isn’t trying to help him, but can you blame Gucci for wanting to stay clear of the police?
It is clear that Gucci loves the sound, as he signed Ola Runt to the New 1017. We can tell the type of artist, sound and hustle Gucci is looking for. I remember when 2 Chainz put out Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, he interviewed a ton of artists to see what that meant to him. Gucci Mane told us that Keyshia always asks to “play that hard, dirty, gangsta trap music,” and that is what Gucci is trying to create within the New 1017. You have to be hard, real and ready to grind nonstop. Ola Runt’s album will be dropping May 24th.
The search for the New 1017 doesn’t stop here, though. Gucci Mane is now looking for two female hip-hop artists to sign to the New 1017. The #New1017Challenge is trending on Instagram, with female rappers who think they have what it takes to join the crew. There are a few dope submissions out there, and a lot of questionable ones, as well. I’m assuming he’ll stick with the south, but I’m interested in the style he goes with. Asian Doll is from Texas. She is a pretty girl but her lyrics are gang related and violent. I’d say this is the look that makes the most sense for 1017. At least a similar look and sound with more nasty content but not necessarily killing anybody. The only real hard females I’ve seen on the challenge are ones whose appearance match that. I can’t see Gucci singing a female talent that doesn’t have the pretty look and the hard skills. I honestly think Keyshia is pulling for something the same. I am definitely going to keep following the submissions and see if I can guess whose next. It is quite entertaining, and I cannot wait to hear the full New 1017 in action.
