Dr. Dre’s The Contract
2.7.22
It is a big month for Dr Dre, with a Super Bowl Halftime Show coming up this weekend. With an outlet as big as such, there could not be a better time for releasing new music. Fans will always hope and dream for Detox to finally come to fruition, but for now, we do have the GTA EP, with features meant to build an album.
Back in December, Dr Dre announced his partnership with Grand Theft Auto. There were to be characters and scenes throughout the game inspired by Dre, and he would also be in charge of putting together the soundtrack. Finally, the tracks have been released in an EP titled Grand Theft Auto: The Contract.
This EP includes six brand new songs, with features from artists including Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Anderson.Paak, Nipsey Hussle, Ty Dolla $ign, Rick Ross, Thurz and Cocoa Sarai. Being one of the first body of works from Dre since Compton released in 2015, it was something special.
Anderson.Paak has two features on the project, after really setting sail to a successful career in music after the Compton album. Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes and Eminem features all brought us back even a further to when the crew were all dropping consistently in their prime, telling stories about their experiences all too real for reality. A Nipsey verse, after a loss that still pains the industry, had me chills, especially with Ty Dolla $ign ending the song with, and the marathon continues, written in bold. Not to mention the Rick Ross feature, which I was not necessarily expecting, but love it, so much.
After a big weekend of music for Dre, he is on deck for the Super Bowl Halftime Show, along with a few of those featured artists (Eminem & Snoop Dogg), as well as some other close friends (Mary J Blige & Kendrick Lamar). As if this crew was not hard hitting enough, there have been rumors of additional artists heading to the show, that we may not yet know about. What we have heard, is that for the first time in Super Bowl history, there will be deaf musicians performing alongside the headliners tracks, in order to share this incredible experience with the deaf community.
Sean Forbes, a deaf rapper from Detroit, along with another deaf rapper named Warren (WaWa) Snipe with each have their own experiences of performing at the NFL Super Bowl Halftime show this weekend. Definitely an incredible moment and a step forward for the NFL becoming a more inclusive environment. Something the Halftime show is sure to do overall this year.
With that, could there be a full album on the way for Dr. Dre? Hopefully we will soon find out.
