Eminem’s Top MCs of All Time
6.15.20
If you listen to any of Eminem’s interviews, I do not believe this list comes as a surprise. However, it is always cool to hear one of the greatest, share who they feel is the greatest, in their eyes. Some rappers may refer to themselves, as the greatest of all time, but Eminem has always takes interest and inspiration from his peers. After getting a Direct Message from YouTuber No Life Shaq, Eminem shares his top list of greats rappers of all time.
No Life Shaq is a YouTuber with over two million subscribers. Recently, he created a YouTube video where he Direct Messages twenty rappers, to see if they would answer the question, who is the greatest rapper of all time. Though Eminem did not respond to the direct message, he somehow got wind of the reaction video. From here, Eminem responded to the Tweet which No Life Shaq is promoting the video, and he shared his top rappers, in two tweets.
No Life Shaq stated in his video, that he wanted Eminem to respond back and just say “me.” Some may hate on Eminem, but he is definitely the goat too many. Eminem took two tweets to respond to the question at hand. He calls out Lil Wayne, 2 Pac, Royce Da 5’9, Jay-Z, Redman, Treach, Kool G. Rap, Biggie Smalls, King Crooked, LL Cool J, Nas, Joyner Lucas, Kendrick Lamar, Andree 3000, Rakim and Big Daddy Kane. This is not a top five nor a top ten, this a top sixteen.
I find it respectable that Eminem has the old heads in here, who he used to listen to growing up. Then he also acknowledges the new wave of rappers who kids do look up, and consider the greatest of all time, such as J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar. I love that Eminem and Lil Wayne consistently put each other in their top lists. They’ve done a number of hits together in the past, and have both done their part in adapting to new sounds and eras of hip-hop. Then, of course my favorite is that Royce and King Crook always end up on his lists. These guys are part of the former Shady crew, Slaughterhouse, and Eminem has continuously praised them. Their lyrical talents are immaculate, and they continue to study new areas of the game and improve their talents. Royce has recently started producing, while King Crook has his own hip-hop podcast.
All in all, there will always be more than one “GOAT.” Eminem appears to have sixteen. I would like to throw Marshall himself into the mix, along with TI. I believe he is on a similar level of Eminem and Wayne where they have continued to adapt to their situations, and no matter the circumstance, they are producing dope hits. Now that Eminem has spoken, does this mean there is new music on the way?
