A Boogie’s Comic Book

6.11.20

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie just announced he will be releasing a deluxe version of Artist 2.0. The original album released on Valentine’s Day earlier this year. While Deluxe albums have been trending recently, most artists only wait a couple of weeks to drop their deluxe album. A Boogie says he wanted to drop the deluxe at a time that felt right, and settled on a date of June 19th. Interesting, as this is a special date, but for almost the exact opposite reasons as Valentine’s Day.

I love deluxe albums. I think it either gives an artist a chance to redeem themselves if was previously poor, or it gives me something to look forward to if I loved it. Some may wonder, why did the artist not just drop all their songs at once? I think it depends. No one wants to listen to a 22 song album all the way through. But if you split it up, give a few weeks to take it all in, I will take it. However, they have to feel connected. I am hoping that since it being so long since A Boogie dropped the original Artist 2.0, that it does feel like a deluxe, and does not feel forced because it is a trend right now, and he did not have the time to create a brand new album.

Many are doing good with their music during this time, and A Boogie plans to do the same. On Instagram, Artist announced he will be using the proceeds from the album to give tablets and laptops to his old elementary school, so that the children and do their classwork safely from home, during these times.

Covid has put a lot of the music world on hold. People want to be sensitive, but also they cannot get the same PR coverage they would, they will not get nearly as many radio plays as they would, it is overall a really tough time. However, things have become even more real over the past two weeks after the murder of George Floyd. People have really been coming together to make a change, and artists have shared their support, knowledge and experiences through new music.

June 19th is a special day for A Boogie to release his album, because it is an African America Holiday, we call, Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865 the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the Confederacy had occurred. We celebrate this day, to celebrate the freedom of those whose relatives have suffered.

I think this album is going to be intense. It will not be a love album like Artist 2.0, but it will hold the same power of energy, passion and raw storytelling.

Every album artwork so far is themed as a comic book. I can read the storyline from each album, by the artwork. I can tell, from the Artist 2.0 Deluxe album artwork, that A Boogie will be telling us about how he has felt trapped in certain instances, where the color of his skin has given him unfair circumstances. The artwork pictures him tied up, upside down, trying to escape. There are girls running out of the door, and a guitar lit up on fire. I am sure we’ll also get plenty of how he has overcame his past, and now is living lavish. However, we are going to get the real from A Boogie on this Deluxe. I am truly excited.
