Gunna Snitching Allegations Reemerge
5.19.20
Being called a snitch or rat is probably one of the most offensive names you can call someone in hip-hop, and in many cultural groups in life. Currently, it feels like the world knows that Tekashi 6ix9ine snitched while he was on trial, and no one wants anything to do with him. While 6ix9ine has been defending his stance on his case, he has been “snitching” on Billboards manipulating their charts. He has been “snitching” on Ariana Grande’s team for buying a number single. He has been accusing Snoop Dogg of being a snitch in a past case of his own. As hip-hop does its best to ignore 6ix9ine, this next allegation might cause some attention.
Is any press good press? Or is there such a bad thing as bad press? Gunna has been on a media run lately for his upcoming album, ‘Wunna’ which is due to release this Friday, May 22nd. Gunna dropped his first single off the album, which is the album title name. This included a visual, and lots of hype on Gunna’s page saying this project will be the documentary of Gunna. I think this album is supper important for him. Hip-hop knows and loves Gunna, but mostly from his features with Lil Baby and Young Thug. Gunna recently proved he can pull his own, with his last single ‘Skybox,’ which was also a hit on Tik Tok. I think to keep it to rapping, Gunna has a ton of potential but a lot to prove on this upcoming album.
So, as Gunna is getting super excited about his new album that is getting ready to drop, he takes a Breakfast Club interview. Now you know when you take a Breakfast Club interview, Charlamagne is going to come at you with the most ignorant comments and questions you do not want to answer. Gunna and the club were just talking about light problems. Internet beefs between French Montana and Young Thug, if Gunna ever found himself in a rap beef, or how he steers away. To this, Charlamagne brings ups a ‘Crime Stopper’ CNN video from 2010. Gunna appears to be seen on some form of show as a teenager, speaking to a reporter about his cousin whom received life in jail for a murder, he claims that his cousin did to commit. Charlamagne brings up this video, asking Gunna if he snitched during the video. Obviously, this has since gone crazy yet again in the media. Though this is not a great look, Gunna handled it quite well.
Gunna is an artist who people probably thinks have no emotions. His voice is deep. He only raps about his money and his clothes. He is always wearing sunglasses inside. I personally, never thought I’d see Gunna smile. On the contrary, he was smiling this whole interview. When asked about the snitching allegations, he just responded without hesitation, and a smile on his face. Gunna claims he never stopped a crime, and never snitched on anyone. All that he said was, his cousin did not commit the crime. In the video discussed, there is a third person’s name brought up in the video. It would appear that this is the guy who Gunna believes is the wanted killer. However, he was never placed on trial, and his cousin is still doing the time for this charge. So all in all, Gunna is not a snitch in his eyes. We can take this video for what it is, but this response was convincing.
I am glad to see Gunna kept his head up, kept his cool and remained positive throughout this Breakfast Club interview. He seems just completely thrilled to put out this project, and show us some of his own work. The passion in his tone and the details he describes that went into this, give me high hopes for what is to come. We can expect a review back here this weekend on how it goes.
