Hip Hop Hall of Fame
8.9.23
We are currently in the month that is the founded 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop. While many brands are celebrating this exciting moment in culture, Billboard had an event last night to celebrate, Billboard R&B Hip-Hop Live. The event included plenty of live performances from artists like Coi Leray, Armani White, and Metro Boomin. There were awards, as Ice Spice is recognized as Rookie of the Year. Most remarkably, Lil Wayne and Nas were inducted to the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame.
Tons of big name artists attended the celebration, like Tinashe, DDG, Mario and more. Fans could also purchase tickets to attend the event, like a concert. While Rock & Roll has its own Hall of Fame, Billboard decided to take matters into their own hands, and honor those whom have given back to hip-hop over the past two decades.
Lil Wayne and Nas were both honored with awards as inductees into the Billboard Hip-Hop Hall of Fame. Lil Wayne thanked “the man above” as well as his fans. He mentioned being in the studio prior to coming to the Billboard event, and that he was headed back to the studio right after. Wayne probably will not ever give up the music, never stop experimenting, and never stop being himself, and we will forever love him for that.
As Nas excepted his award, he reflected on his past in music. Though he had been making music since the 90s, he just started getting his awards now. Nas is turning 50 this year, alongside Hip-Hop, and thanked numerous honorable artists, old and new, throughout his speech.
Lil Wayne and Nas both accepted their awards with their daughters in attendance at the event. A great way to celebrate their honor, with family.
Would Nas and Lil Wayne be your top two Hip-Hop Hall of Fame inductees? Who else would you like to see included?
