EST Gee

In music, or at least in hip-hop, different cities tend to peak at different times, with their different styles and trends. Chicago drill evolved into New York Drill, the Bay Area almost feels old school and legendary, the south is going crazy right now, and Philly just seems like hip-hop. One place you tend not to really look at, is Kentucky, Louisiana. No, I am not talking about Jack Harlow, but you may have heard about EST Gee if you listened to Harlow’s last album, That’s What They All Say. EST Gee is the latest to come form the city, and putting in the work to become the next hottest artist on the block.

EST Gee was featured on Jack Harlow’s album on the track, Route 66. Jack has the chorus and mentions their city, while EST Gee just goes bar for bar on his verse, and is pretty impressive for the first time you may have heard about him. He raps about Chrome Hearts but keeps a quick and steady flow to really bop to. If you find him on Apple Music, you will see that he is relatively new to the music scene, with just a couple of projects since 2019. With that, a lot of people may have heard about EST Gee for the first time on the Jack Harlow album, including Funk Flex.

Just yesterday, Hot 97 released the EST Gee x Funk Flex freestyle, and he seemed to be feeling it, as well as many other current hip-hop stars. EST Gee is on set with Flex rocking a Supreme baseball cap, a VLONE t-shirt, and two crazy diamond chains. While the chat was brief and you could barely make out what EST Gee was saying, his freestyle was clear and held plenty of substance. The freestyle is about two minutes in length. He covered everything from his past life, his EST crew, to being a family man and a father figure now. I would say he kind of sounds like Moneybagg Yo prior to all his ratchet love song phase. You know, at the very beginning when you had to go hard to prove yourself. He is almost like a 42 Dugg with more of a southern accent. Young and turnt, I guess you could call it. Overall, his sound is really good and seems to make good music.

Though he got his shine on the Jack Harlow album courtesy to his Kentucky brother Jack Harlow, it definitely makes sense that he is headed to the southern crew that is currently taking over, I.E. Moneybagg Yo, Lil Baby, Yo Gotti, and we know 42 Dugg rocks with them even though he is from Detroit. EST Gee put out a project I Still Don’t Feel Nun, at the bottom of 2020. The project included features Yo Gotti, 42 Dugg, Babyface Ray, Moneybagg Yo, YFN Gucci, Kevin Gates, and Jack Harlow. I already think this line up is dope, and so it the whole project. Already this year, he has been featured on a Lil Baby track, Real As It Gets, and dropped his own single Lick Back about three weeks ago. Some of these guys shared their positive sentiment on the clip that EST Gee shared on his own Instagram page from the Funk Flex Freestyle, including messages from others like Westside Boogie, Lil Durk, Tory Lanez, YNJay and more.

The EST in front of the Gee is his record label “Everybody Shines Together,” which is tatted on his hand. Kind of like the YBNs, the YFNs, the YNW, etc. It does not seem like there is too much going on there besides some close friends, but you never know what happens when he blows up, and starts doing whatever he wants. This past January, after the release of his project I Still Don’t Feel Nun, EST Gee also signed a deal with Yo Gotti and his CMG label. You can see them celebrating and counting money together on the EST Instagram page.

Right now, the south is on fire. From Houston, to Tennessee, to ATL, and apparently Kentucky. I was recently talking with a friend about who would even make the XXL Freshman Class this year. Now, I would put EST Gee as a front runner, and keep an eye out for what is next from him.
