Is Kanye OK?

You can only call it a passionate artist for so long. I am officially worried about Kanye West, and it seems that his family feels this way, too. After a political campaign rally in South Carolina over the weekend, people began to question Kanye’s motives and beliefs. Last night, Ye went on a tweet-and-delete rant, calling out his family and other people around him, ending the rant with “Ima focus on the music now.”
It was already in the media that Kanye West was dropping out of the 2020 Presidential election, after announcing he was running just a few weeks prior. So, this rally came to be a bit of a surprise. The State of South Carolina said West never filled out the proper paperwork he needed to in order to be placed on the 2020 Ballot in their state, so it seems that Kanye just did not care, or perhaps just wanted to make some noise and be heard. In the end, it seems extremely unlikely that West will be running for President in this election, but even if that were the case, this rally may have blown his any chances he did have left.
Attendees to the rally were said to have interrupted West on stage for sharing facts that were, in fact, not true. A black woman shared a video that went viral stating West denied her question after being invited on stage, interrogated her, called her a “sister soldier” and told the crowd she was looking for Wakanda, not America. If this alone does not throw off your opinions of West leading America, he is currently under fire for much more. West talked about making marijuana free, giving a million dollars to everyone that has a baby instead of having an abortion, speaking out on his past with the subject, and stating that Harriet Tubman “never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.”
The comment about Harriet Tubman threw everyone for a loop. Artists such as T.I, Q Tip, 50 Cent, John Legend and many more have called out West on his ignorance on the subject, sharing their love for what Tubman has done for the black community in America. Kanye’s family, on the other hand, are worried about much more.
During the rally, Kanye West spoke on abortion. He mentioned that his mother had almost aborted him, but he is here now. Additionally, he mentioned that when Kim was pregnant with North, West wanted her to get an abortion.
"My dad wanted to abort me. My mom saved my life. There would have been no Kanye West, because my dad was too busy."
"I almost killed my daughter ... So even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world, even when I didn't want to. She stood up, and she protected that child."
Though there has been no official statement from Kim Kardashian, she has been retweeting all kinds of comments reacting to the situation. Whether they are putting down Kanye, putting down the Kardashians, or suggesting this is all promo for Kanye’s new album which is supposed to drop this Friday. However, reports say Kim is furious that Ye brought up something so personal for the world to hear.
West went on his own Twitter rant, saying that Kim tried to fly out a doctor to Wyoming to help West. He tweeted for Kim and Kriss to call him, that he was ready to talk. He called out Shia Labeouf, Drake, Bill Cosby, and so much more. It seems like he is in hott waters with the family, but is it real? Where West does have an album releasing on Friday, some may say it feels plotted. Is this promo for the new album? Did he not got crazy right before he dropped his last album, as well?
Kanye West does openly suffer from bipolar disorder, so this seems like a real episode. Calling out his family and friends for the world to hear, that just does not seem like something anyone in the right headspace would do. Perhaps after going through the process of recording a whole album, and the pressure of if it will hit and be as good as the last has gotten to Kanye, as he struggles to deal with his bipolar disorder. We can only wish Kanye works it out with the family and gets the help that he needs. Either way, we will all have to check out the album and see what work he put together this time around.
