Lil Durk’s Double Major
7.19.22
Lil Durk as an artist continues to be at the top of his game. This year he has dropped an album, plus the deluxe version. Additionally, been a part of so many massive hit records. He went on tour earlier this year, will have a run at festival season, and now, is showing us even more of his talents. As a model.
When you think about hip-hop, there a few things that go hand-in-hand. Sports. Sneakers. And fashion in general. Hip-hop artists have taken their money and leaned into purchasing and learning the ins-and-outs of the fashion industry. Some artists like the A$AP Mob grounded their roots in fashion from the beginning. They have gone to create their own fashion brands, and teamed up with companies for endorsements to help them and amplify these brands.
Others have received promotion deals, and found their way into building their own brands. Tyler, the Creator was an ambassador with Converse, then grew to formulating his own apparel and accessories brand. Like many, Tyler grew much of his passions and expertise in the fashion world from the late, Virgil Abloh. Virgil’s legacy changed hip-hop and fashion for the masses.
Virgil worked closely with Tyler, he worked closely with Kanye West, and many other artists. Playboi Carti most popularly comes to mind when thinking of hip-hop artists whom have walked down the runway. It feels like just yesterday, but it was 2018 when Carti walked down the runway modeling for Virgil in Paris Fashion Week. Many were stunned, but it just made sense. Ever since, hip-hop has been ready.
Last month, Lil Durk had his go at being a runway model, as he walked for Amiri in this years’ Paris Fashion week. The collection took influencer of California summer days, with lots of light hues and flowy silhouettes. Lil Durk modeled a pair of white shorts that buttoned at the side, for an open flare of the leg. It was paired with a light sweater that pictured an overall print, that embodied the Amiri logo, as a giant marble statue in a luxurious garden of tall bushes and a long swimming pool, with blue skies and clouds above.
Just yesterday, Lil Durk revealed that he is a new model for Marc Jacobs. He is modeling the new Denim Monogram Collection, available as of today on he Marc Jacobs website. This campaign featured Bella Hadid, Paloma Elsesser, and Selena Forrest in addition to Lil Durk. A lot of high end model status in line with the work of your current favorite hip-hop artist.
With all the drama that Lil Durk has been getting himself into the past year, he has mentioned a reset. These modeling gigs are not something I would have thought he would be interested in, but are certainly amazing for him and his career.
Are you into Durk’s latest passion? Should he stick to music?
