New Year, Same Us
1.2.24
It’s a new year, so it is time to restart your most listened to playlists, and start taking note of the best music releases of 2024. While December is a month for your favorites twist on Christmas Carols, January brings us recaps of the year’s past, and a preview of what is ahead.
Justina Valentine is most known for her profound presence on Nick Cannon’s Wild N Out, where she whoops all the boys in the Wild Style with her freestyles. Beyond this, Justina has been working on her personal music career, and has seen success in hosting gigs across the MTV Network. Her most recent partnership, however, is with The Shade Room, and she reminded us of all the tea that went down in 2023. From social trends, media scandals, serious life events and plenty of celebrating hip-hop, Justina Valentine kicked off the 2023 recaps with a twelve minute freestyle recaping the biggest moments of the year.
Similarly, Uncle Murda released Rap Up 2023 Part 1 and Rap Up 2023 Part 2 which are both trending in the top 20 YouTube Music placements, being released yesterday and today. Uncle Murda took a mainly hip-hop approach to his freestyles reminding us of everything that went down this year.
In terms of new music thus far, BabyTron of course hoped on the trend of moments in time. He released a single Merry Sh**mas last week, nodding to his hip-hop collective, and yesterday dropped New Year Same Me.
We still have our first New Music Friday of the year to come, but the floodgates have been opened for new trending moments in hip-hop this year, already. What are you looking for most in 2024 in music? Trending sounds? Lyrics? Albums? Mixtapes? Videos? More?!
