Real Recognize Real
8.31.22
Real recognize real. A mini quote heard around the world, many times coming from people who were not best of friends, and grew to become keen on one another. In the music industry, you can go back and forth with someone over a certain topic, and then vibe out in the studio when it comes to put in work, and drop an incredible record. This trio may be a bit surprising, but is sure to make some industry waves.
Just yesterday, Conway the Machine posted a photo on Instagram of himself in the studio with Kanye West and Dr. Dre. Conway is sitting at a table, while Dre is sitting by the sound boards and Kanye appears to be next to him checking out something on his phone. What exactly is the context of the photo is unclear, but they are definitely cooking up something special.
When you think about the dynamic of this trio, it is really interesting. Kanye West has in the past a lot of good things, and questionable things, to say about Dr. Dre and is his partner-in-crime, Eminem. However, that is really no surprise as that could be the case for Ye’s thoughts on just about anybody. Just this past Friday, DJ Khaled dropped his latest album including the Use This Gospel Remix, which featured Eminem and was produced by Dr. Dre. Khaled recently shared a video to his page, of Dre and Ye in the studio rocking out while creating this track.
Aside from this, Conway the Machine was signed to Shady Records, until recently. Similarly to the Kanye West comments, the Griselda crew did not always have the most positive things to say about their experiences with Shady, but Conway has been the one to really stand out on this deal, and has multiple times expressed his gratitude on the opportunity he was given by Shady. After Conway dropped his debut album on the label, God Don’t Make Mistakes, his contract deliverables were complete, and is now independent, after leaving both Shady and Griselda Records.
Finally, Conway the Machine is the only one of the Griselda crew who did not sign a management deal with Roc Nation, clearly ran by Jay-Z who Ye also has a rollercoaster relationship with. I am sure Jay is not watching what-so-ever, but it is just interesting to see how certain relationships build up, or break down.
Either way you look at it, real recognize real, and Dre took Conway the Machine in the studio with him and Kanye West. Dre and Ye seem to be working together heavy lately. Only time will tell what other gems we will receive from these sessions. But boy do I hope they drop something soon!
