Latto Super Gremlin Freestyle 12.27.21

Big Latto has come through with another, big remix. This time, she has jumped on Kodak Black’s trending instrumental from Super Gremlin. The timing is just days after celebrating her 23rd, birthday, and shortly after being accused of stealing song lyrics from another up-and-coming female artist. It does not seem like Latto is phased by the negativity, however, as she continues to impress with each and every new style that she brings.

The artist accusing Latto of stealing song lyrics is named Big Indo, who recently dropped a song It’s Giving Me. She reposted a TikTok that Latto shared, where she assumes this is a new song of Latto’s, where the beat and lyrics were stolen from Indo’s own track. Some were even suggesting that the look was stolen, due to a previous photoshoot that Big Indo had done, where each of them were wearing diamond and bejeweled lingerie sets.

The term It’s Giving, is one of the more popular sayings and quotes at the moment, however, the beat did sound a bit close. There is always the chance that her team brought the sound to her, and she did not know about it. But, even since then, Latto shared her cover to Kodak Black’s song, and mentioned she is never too famous to cover some of the greatest.

In the cover, Super Gremlin Freestyle, there were no ‘It’s Giving’ lyrics, but she did wear the outfit being critiqued. Latto mentioned it was from her birthday photoshoot, and if I may, Beyoncé wore it years ago, and plenty more have done it since. Latto, may have just done it the best. Aside from that, she wears a white matching sweatsuit and long, blonde hair. She seems to be a lounge-like studio in Atalanta, and showcases scenes in a strip club, and a lot full of Lamborghinis.

Throughout Latto’s last album, she mentioned the difficult relationship she had with her father, and loosing some of what she thought were her closest friends when she began to blow up. She addresses those both here, which goes into the theme of the original song. Nonetheless, Latto does not let up on the bars, defining her role as an artist in this industry, and a powerful woman in real life.

I told me *** the Birkins and cars are cool

but Loyalty got no amount

Latto crushed it on the track per usual, and the views are increasing by the moment. She is not the first to show love to Kodak Black, or share that he may have inspired a song of female artists. Cardi B was very open about Kodak inspiring Bodak Yellow, and, we know that least Kodak assumes he inspired Megan Thee Stallion asking people to “drive the boat” when taking shots with her.

Kodak Black is an artist with immense success for the music he has put out. There are a lot of heavy Kodak fans out there, and those fans watched his Super Gremlin music video over 43,000,000 times on YouTube, in under two months. I found this to be extremely impressive of Kodak fans, though, I have never been one of them. The music video itself would be interesting, if it was more than the same two shots over and over again. Kodak is wearing some black tinted goggles, with extensive spikes on each of the lenses. There is one girl in the video, wearing a leather corset, a devil’s mask with large horns, and, her mouth is sewn shut. It is super eery, and extremely interesting, but that is about as far as the interest goes. There is not plot line of the movie, they are just sitting within four walls, slightly dancing to the track.

The song is seemingly about a previous friend and partner he used to have who switched up on him. He goes from rapping, to in the chorus, singing in a way that not even auto-tune can make sense for Kodak, but perhaps that what people really love about him. He may not have the most incredible voice in the world, but he is not afraid to say what he is feeling, and doing it in a way that is different and unique to himself. At one point in the track he said “I’m not sliming, I’m griming.” I do not think it was a hit at Young Thug or any of the Slime members, but that he is making a name for himself completely on his own, with his own opinions. That is something Latto can likely relate quite well too, being a female artist whom was given a platform and a label from winning a television show looking for new artists, to ultimately leaving that opportunity to try it again, her own way.

Latto has been consistently entertaining with new music and different styles, and I cannot wait to hear what is next from the Queen of da Souf.
