The Lox Verzuz Dipset 8.3.21

The Verzuz battles seem to keep getting larger and larger. For The Lox and Dipset Verzuz battle, Triller managed to set up at the Madison Square Garden for the ultimate showdown of hip-hop group legends. The battle was just about everything we were hoping for. If you missed it, you can still watch the replay on the FITE app, but you will need three full hours to really experience the whole thing.

Like any concert, the DJ set hypes up the crowd before the main event, so this did take up the first hour of the night. The Triller stage resembled a boxing ring, and they had an announcer come out in an all white suite to announce each group coming into the ring, just like in boxing. Right away, both crews were yelling jabs at one another, but it was all playful, as there were plenty of hugs and handshakes as well.

Fat Joe was enjoying himself from the crowd, and plenty other viewers were shown appearing to be having the time of their lives. Likely the first live show for many, but an iconic moment for hip-hop indeed.

From The Lox, of course we had Sheek Louch, Styles P and Jadakiss. Sheek wore all black, a graphic tee, and some Air Force 1s. Styles P wore a green tracksuit with shorts, a green hat and green Nikes. Jadakiss wore his classic cargo shorts and white tee, topped off with a ‘Lox’ hat. Jadakiss was crowed the winner of the night by many. He performed every single song with energy, and continued to call out Dipset when the DJ played the words to their songs, when he was steady just rapping over his beat.

From Dipset, Cam'ron, Jim Jones and Freekey Zekey, and Juelz Santana were all in attendance. Cam’ron wore a black track suit with red pin stripes and large F logo, making a fashion statement as always. Juelz, however, had him beat with his look. Instead of predicting the future of fashion, I think Juelz was really trying to bring back his style of the past. He wore baggy, distressed denim, an oversized brown jacket colorful letters all over, a white hate with pink LV embroidered all over, a green bandana, and a durag untied, so it hung down over whole fit. His Air Force 1s were black with a purple sole. Overall it was a lot going on, some people hated it, I kind of loved it. Added to the whole vibe, for sure.

So, the vibes were set up strong for the ultimate hip-hop battle, or celebration. After about an hour and forty minutes, the guys were told they had less than thirty minutes left to go, however they all decided they’d continue the celebration until they got through their rounds. Here is how we rated each round.

Round 1: The Lox – “Fuck You” vs. Dipset – “I’m Ready”

After a super lengthy period of timing throwing jabs back and forth, Jada finally told Dipset to be quiet and for the DJ to drop the beat. The Lox came out super strong with undeniable energy. They took round one and set the bar high.

Winner: The Lox

Round 2: Nore featuring The Lox – “Banned From TV” vs. Dipset – “Crunk Muzik”

Dipset knew what they had to do in order not to go down 2-0. Crunk Muzik for live, so I had to go with Dipset for round 2.

Winner: Dipset

Round 3: DMX featuring The Lox & Ma$e – “Niggaz Done Started Something” vs. Cam’ron featuring Lil Wayne – “Touch It Or Not”

Dipset called out The Lox for playing all their best hits too early around here. They came out strong, but I know they have plenty more in the valut. They do take this round, but we do love a Wayne feature.

Winner: The Lox

Round 4: Sheek Louch featuring J-Hood, Jadakiss & Styles P – “Mighty D-Block (2 Guns Up)” vs.  Juelz Santana – “Santana’s Town (Dipset)

Juelz Sanata fell asleep during Sheek performing. It was funny, but something that has been done in pretty much every battle. I’m hanging onto The Lox here.

Winner: The Lox

Round 5: Jadakiss – “Who Shot Ya?” vs. Cam’ron – “Get Em Girls/”Ambitionz Az a Ridah”

Jadakiss was definitely the man of the night. He’s been here before, he knows how to rock the crowd, and that is exactly what he did. He somehow managed to keep everyone inline and all together, while also putting on a killer performance.

Winner: The Lox

Round 6:  Jay-Z featuring The Lox – “Reservoir Dogs”/ Jadakiss – “Blood Pressure” vs. Cam’ron – “357”/”Just Fire”

The guys start to mix their tracks, doing multiple per rounds. It makes sense when you have so many members on each crew. I loved it, but the Jay-Z featured rounds are typically hard to beat. No different here.

Winner: The Lox

Round 7: Ma$e featuring The Lox – “24 Hours To Live” vs. Jim Jones – “G’s Up”/”Harlem”/”Byrd Gang Money”

Jim Jones does his thing, and holds his own throughout the course of the battle. However, Ma$e and Lox set the tone for the rest of the night with this track right here.

Winner: The Lox

Round 8: The Lox – “Chest To Chest (Funk Flex Freestyle)” vs. Cam’ron featuring Master P – “Bout It, Bout It”

This round was a bit tough. I am always here for the Funk Flex Freestyle and the energy that comes with it. However, I got to give the best hit song to Cam’ron and Master P.

Winner: Dipset

Round 9: The Lox – “Dope Money” vs. Cam’ron featuring Jay-Z – “Welcome To New York City”

Each track here was pretty on fire, and the rounds are starting to pick up intensity. But, in a battle of continuously arguing which part of New York takes home the crown, I’ll give this round to Dipset.

Winner: Dipset

Round 10: Ja Rule featuring Fat Joe & Jadakiss – “”New York, New York”/ Akon featuring Styles P – “Locked Up” vs. Jim Jones – “Certified Gangstas”

The whole battle, people were arguing about who lives where. Each crew were representing different parts of New York, but many have moved out of state since their primes. When Cam’ron told The Lox they were in his city, Jadakiss reminded him he lived in Miami. Playing this song, he let everyone know he did not leave his roots. Not to mention, Fat Joe was in the crowd going ham as soon as the beat drop.

Winner: The Lox

Round 11: Styles P – “Barry Bonds” – Jim Jones – “We Fly High (Balling)”

We Fly High may arguably be the biggest hit of the night. It hit different generations, and you really heard the crowd turn up for this one. The crowd is currently flooded with friends of each crew, and Jim Jones goes to a jewelry to add one more piece to his collection performing his massive hit record.

Winner: Dipset

Round 12: Puff Daddy featuring The Lox, Lil Kim & The Notorious B.I.G – “All About The Benjamins” vs. Dipset “Dipset Anthem”

The crowd is all the way tuned in, and so is Julez Santana. When Jada started talking, Julez said before the beat even dropped ‘oh Benjamins is next.’ The perfect track to follow up with Jim Jones’ legacy track. Dipset came with it as well with their team anthem, but I have to go Lox, still.

Winner: The Lox

Round 13: The Lox – “Wild Out” vs. Cam’ron – “Killa Kam”

Speaking of anthems, you cannot stop the Lox anymore. Juelz was definitely feeling some type of way that they followed up his anthem was this. It’s pretty much over at this point, but we’re still having fun.

Winner: The Lox

Round 14:  Sheek Louch featuring Styles P – “Kiss Your Ass Goodbye” vs Jim Jones – “Salute”/”848”

Sheek and Jim Jones goes head-to-head here. Two songs (well, three) that were perfect to go together in one round, not a light decision, but I give it to Jim Jones. His energy was heavy, his song(s) were more of a fun track to listen to, and Julez Santana striped down his bottom layers and was going crazy dancing all over the ring.

Winner: Dipset

Round 15: The Lox – “Felony Niggas” vs. Cam’ron featuring Juelz Santana – “Oh Boy”/”Hey Ma”

There was a bit of a chaotic moment here, the stage is almost completely full, now with people that may have just jumped on from the crowd. After threatening to kick out everyone from the arena and shut the show down 4.5 rounds early, they managed to make it work, and Dipset performs their most nostalgic song so far.

Winner: Dipset

Round 16: The Lox – “Ryde or Die”/Mariah Carey featuring Jadakiss & Styles P – “Honey Remix”/J.Lo featuring The Lox – “Jenny From The Block”/Mary J. Blige – “Family Affair Remix”/Sheek Louch – “Hood Love”/ Jadakiss – “Knock Yourself Out” vs. Jim Jones featuring Trey Songz – “Summer Wit’ Miami”

I love how no matter how many rounds these guys go, there were way more tracks than just 19 or 20. The Lox went for all their massive hits, Grammy hits, family hits, and absolutely shut it down this round.

Winner: The Lox

Round 17: Styles P – “Good Times (I Get High)” vs. Juelz Santana – “S.A.N.T.A.N.A.”/”Murda Murda”

It starts to be just good vibes all around in the late rounds. Likely to everyone starting to less loose and feel relaxed with The Lox’s super hit in this round.

Winner: The Lox

Round 18: Jadakiss – “All For The Love”/DMX featuring The Lox – “Ruff Ryders Anthem Remix”/DMX featuring Sheek Louch – “Get At Me Dog”/The Notorious B.I.G. featuring The Lox – “Last Day” vs. Cam’ron featuring Syleena Johnson – “Down And Out”

Ruff Ryders win no matter what, but obviously it was a monumental moment of the battle honoring DMX.

Winner: The Lox

Round 19: The Lox – “Money, Power, Respect”/Jadakiss – “By Your Side”/Jadakiss – “Put Your Hands Up”/Jadakiss featuring Styles P – “We Gon Make It'” vs. Cam’ron – “I Really Mean It”

Both rounds here were on point to end the night. Each crew expressed their love for one another. They knew things would get “chippy” but that is just the name of the game, and all love on each side. The guys announced a tour coming later in October, so it is not over from either crew. The Lox who really owned every moment of the night, so I got to give it to them once more.

Winner: The Lox

The Lox: 13

Dipset: 6

Overall Winner: The Lox
