Royce Da 5’9 and Lupe Fiasco are two people in the hip-hop industry whom are known for their lyrical capabilities. Some people mumble over a cool beat, some have witty punch lines, some make songs to sing along to, but Royce and Lupe are both extremely lyrical. So much that, they even created a podcast together titled, The Royce and Lupe Show. Unfortunately, it appears the podcast has ended, however The Royce and Lupe Show is continuing.

The podcast lives on Say What Media’s YouTube Channel. Royce and Lupe were posting weekly, just discussing whatever was going on in the world. Not only they are both super lyrical when it comes to their professions as rap artists, but they are both very intellectual people. The bio for the podcast literally states, you’ll laugh, and you’ll probably learn a thing or two.

Even if you only watch Royce’s rants on Instagram, you have likely seen him bring a handful of people on Instagram Live and try to educate them on something. Previously on the blog, we have even discussed how Royce has talked things out with several people on Live, allowing them to fix their issues they were holding onto with others. Unfortunately, it may have been one of these Instagram Live discussions that have the Royce and Lupe dynamic in a frenzy.

A few weeks back, there was a discussion on Live about who was the better lyricist between Royce and Lupe. I recall this discussion dating back ages, and it will always be a topic of discussion in hip-hop, when it comes down to lyricism. Lupe also got mad when they added him to a Live and questioned why he would not to a URL Rap Battle. It is by no means factual, but it appears these conversations that got a bit tense may have lead to the ultimate battle we have at hand.

Lupe Ficaso seemingly initiated some beef with a number nine minute long freestyle on Instagram Live, taking shots at Royce. In addition to the rhymes, on another Instagram Live, where he shares that he will not be continuing with the podcast, expressing that it was something his heart was never in from the beginning.

Royce went in and did his thing on Silence of the Lambda, a seven-minute lyrical masterpiece that did include a handful of jabs towards Lupe. Of course, within hours, Lupe dropped another track, Steve Jobs. While this track was also six minutes long and had its quality share of technical rhymes and interesting jabs, he did say if Royce was as much of a lyrical genius as he claimed to be, he could have finished Lupe instead of doing these massively long tracks. To each it’s own, we all know we want to see how long these guys can go.

The crazy thing here is, Lupe has not stopped. Just yesterday, Lupe dropped a new track Teach A Man to Fish, which many are obviously tying together with the beef, along with two freestyles which certainly take another few digs at the Detroit artist.

Royce Da 5’9 chats with Bun B and others, saying he is disappointed in them, and basically his whole crew for leaving him to be on his own, when Lupe and his partner Micky Factz are constantly coming at him, in a lyrical battle “attack.” While colleges think that Royce does not need any help when it comes to being the dopest lyricist, he still wants Crooked I, Joe Budden, and King Los to come to side during these times. He even said “I’m disappointed in Marshall … nah, I’m not disappointed in Marshall.” While noting that this rap beef likely has not made it’s way to Eminem’s world, just yet.

Though it is sad to see two old friends going so hard at one another in a negative way, there are a few things that could come from this. Lupe says he would not do URL, but maybe another battle scene, even if it was a Verzuz for lyrical hits, or just going bar for bar on Live, seems to be their favorite scene.

Another positive, there could be a Slaughterhouse reunion in the near future. While Royce calls upon Crooked I and Joe Budden, each of them have been a part of the conversation of what is going on today, so we know they are all still friends, despite the Slaughterhouse split. Crooked I may be onto something, where he Tweeted that if Lupe Fiasco and Micky Factz brought Slaughterhouse back together after he never could, it would feel like a slap in the face. However, Joell Ortiz, last member of the crew who just recently reactivated his socials, commented back and said there is plenty of time to make Slaughterhouse a thing again.

The guys clearly all want it at this point, and perhaps this was the plan all along. If this does go through, now Royce and Lupe will have to argue over who is the better peace maker. I cannot wait to see it all unfold.
